x-Card - GUI

If I get an xcard - what options are there for GUI output ??

I have tried TVedia and did not take to it so I suppose I rule that out straight away.

The other options as I can see are
  • Have S-Video out plugged into TV and fiddle with switching between channels when you want to view MPEG stream
  • get a small monitor to output VGA signal to and only use TV for mpeg streams
  • Don't bother and leave it with bad quality S-Video signal

Hi....that can be a bit of a problem.

Like you,I use an X-card for DVD playback to an RPTV from a UVEM HTPC,and I use the X-Card's component output to the TV for DVD playback, and switch to an alternate channel for PC output when necessary.

Ideally I'd have a small LCD monitor somewhere near us in the room, but this works well enough and avoids the extra clutter, and also ensures the playback quality is as good as it can be....quite honestly the quality difference between S-Video and component with that card is so marked that I wouldn't use S-video.

Hi guys,
I too still use an Xcard and didn't like the TVedia front-end. It wouldn't work with my IRman IR receiver and was cranky using the USB-UIRT receiver.

I use it for watching interlaced DigiTV Nebula .mpg recordings, out via PDI to the holo3d card. The Faroudja deinterlacing for 480i and 576i is way better than TheaterTek2.1/Radeon9600 or the Roku HD1000/MPlay out at 1080i or 720p.

I too am looking to solve the problem of a decent remote controllable interface to start VIDEO_TS and .MPG file playback. Here's a few ideas:

a) The x-card provides DirectShow filters, Zoomplayer or a simple custom starter app. could be setup to play using the xcard hardware decoder. A brief scan of the inmatric forum showed that getting the sound out the x-card sp/dif this was was hard, alse the soundcard output slowly drifted off-sync. This could probably be automated off my wifi pocketpc touchscreen using xlobby/girder.

b) I could get the Roku HD1500 to play DVD's at 480i/576i and pipe the component analog in to the holo3d (the x-box can then pass-thru the Roku). The downside here is I might miss the quality of the PDI digital connection.

c) Use Girder to send keys to the XMP to start playback of files or drive letter?

Can't think of anything easier or better now though.
regards,
rob.

Yep. In installing the x-card driver and XMP2.1, on rebooting TheaterTek2.1 offered to fix that it was no longer the default dvd player, to which I answered yes.

To my surprise a default graphedit open and old copy of zoomplayer both showed blank on-screen windows, with the video correctly rendered on the holo3d via PDI and with the S/PDIF output directly from the x-card.

It's not a nice on-screen gui itself, as the holo3d app occludes the zoomplayer window, but I'm sure that can be automated using girder or xlobby, if media folder browsing via a networked pocketpc or tabletpc is an option.

regards,
Rob.
