MPEG4 delayed until Sept 1st

News item:
The Euro 1080 MPEG4 transmissions, which were to start about now, have been put off until Sept due to delays with Set Top Boxes. It looks like HD2, the pay per event channel will still go ahead with MPEG2 from July 1st. HD2 test transmissions are scheduled to start tomorrow. Still no details of any specific events to be covered by HD2, only that Playboy HD will be on late night. Here is a link to the press release:

An actual delay in production/supply or a marketing decision to make the channel more accessible to the UK/France and Germany via their own national broadcasters launching HD

I've left HD-1 tuned in and running while I'm doing some work, in case we start seeing trailers for HD-2, I'm really looking forward to it. Like most HD-1 regulars I am desperate for new content

I will certainly subscribe IF it can be accessed using the SKY STB and obviously using Videoguard, hopefully it will be bundled into the SKY package but a standalone product is still attractive.
Just not enough to buy a second STB that for the foreseeable future has no use for anything other than HD1/2

Hi mate, it's due to launch 1st July but there should be clips/trailers showing from today. I assume they will just show from time to time on HD-1. If you do find it anywhere else, let us know

It looks like HD2 made its debut last month with a business to business event. A press release, dated 8th. June appeared on the Euro1080 web site today.

We look forward to some more entertaining events in the future.

Jim.

Think that press release might be wrong; I remember some time in June there was a show on HD1 showing an eye operation.

Last time I spoke to someone at Euro1080, think it was the technical director he said they did not have the equipment to transmit MPEG 4 that was back I May. Also he said they might be using DVB-S2 so my Skystar 1 will not work.

as long as the new recievers have a CI slot then they will be a lot better than any Sky box for multi sat reception

the HD2 content looks about as interesting as the HD1 stuff yawn. Winter Olympics look nice but not what i was expecting from a PPV channel. Europe wide broadcasting rights are pricey so cant see hd1/2 ever attracting mass subs

Indeed

However for a lot of people 28.2 is all they want and with HD1/2 due to be carried on those birds a purchase of the SKY+ HD would cover most bases assuming of course HD1/2 is encrypted using Videoguard becasue I can not see a CI slot appearing on the SKY STB

I once read that it was possible to use two encryption systems on a single broadcast so for instance a videoguard and a secaII receiver could tune into the channel and watch it.
Is that possible or did I get the wrong end of the stick?
