An update:
I emailed Sky very briefly about this problem yesterday. Impressively, I had a reply in my Inbox this morning, unimpressively it was this :

In order for me to assist with your enquiry, please contact me with your full name, address, account number, viewing card number, date of birth and any password on the account.
Alternatively, you may call our customer service team on 08702 40 40 40 where one of our advisors will be able to assist.

Don't these people read emails? I had exactly the same thing from the BBC website the other day - I emailed them with a query and they answered a totally different question. Anyway, I replied to this email basically saying that as it wasn't directly connected to my account and as I was only emailing as a favour then I wasn't going to waste my time finding my viewing card number and account number.
A "Thanks for that" would have done
