What type of tv?

I`ve had a couple of plasma tvs(42" Panasonic-quite nice)and now I`m on an NEC 50".I am VERY peeved at the rather rubbish black levels on it-they never seem"black"enough!
I have a budget of around £2500 and was wondering if Plasma tv really is the best type for my needs(HDMI dvd player, soon to have X Box 360 etc etc)or could anyone suggest a better alternative?I need to have at least a 50 inch screen with,it goes without saying,a stunning picture and minimal chance of screen burn.

At that screen size and budget your more than likely going to be looking for a projection based system. If you can ensure that the ambient light levels are going to be reasonably low when in use, a front or rear projection system could well be worth looking at.
