Question Sony HD5 volume limit problem?

I recently bought the HD5, great machine btw; anyway I removed the EU-volume limit and now the player wil 'black out' as soon as the volume-bar goes past the center .

Anybody else experiencing this problem? I'm thinking of applying the limit again coz this just sucks!

"Black out"? You mean the display gets garbled in some way? That sounds odd...

that sounds like you got a defective unit there have you tried emailing sony about it? or would it void your warranty messing with the hidden menu?

It wouldn't void the warranty I don't think. If you had opened it up and played around with the insides it would, but Sony have no way of telling you've been in the menu anyway (assuming you go back in and turn on the Limiter before sending it back that is!)

Prob solved; I guess?

Thanks for the replies!
The 'black out', as i've now found out, only occurred with my travel speakers, so I recon it's got something to do with the type of jack or something like that? Seems rather odd though.... With headphones I've got no probs so it isn't a big deal.

thx!!!

If by "black out" you mean the display backlight then, if it is the same as the NW-HD1, when you change the SP setting in the system menu for some reason it switches the backlight off too so you have to come back out and manually set the backlight on from the main player menu (not the hidden system menu).

Sony HD5 Sound Limiter

Hi,

Just bought the Sony HD5 and want the sound put up to decent level!

Can anyone point me in the right direction to disable the EU limiter via the hidden menu? I didn't even know there was a hidden menu!

Thanks very much!

Start the player. Start playing a song. Turn the HOLD function on by sliding the swich at the top. Then, Hold the SEARCH/MENU button and enter the button sequence:

Right, Right, Left, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Up, Down.

Let go of the buttons, and put the HOLD switch back to its original position.
The backlight will cut out and you'll be in the service menu with "POWER" displayed.

Press DOWN twice to select OTHERS and press Right to get into the menu.
Press up 4 times to get to SP SET (Sound Pressure Setting).
Press Play/Pause to get into change the option. Then press SEARCH/MENU to
toggle the option on or Off (obviously, Off is for louder sounds).

Press PLAY to preserve setting and return to SP SET screen, then press and hold STOP (power on/off button) to switch off the player.

When you next switch on, the volume restrictions will have been lifted.

As a one off, you will have to now reset the OPTIONS for backlight and playmode as they will have defaulted to backlight off and playmode one song.

Happy listening

Michael

Sony HD-5 Sound Level problem

Thanks to you all for your responses.

I've now got a decent sound level - and it's a pleasure to have to turn it down occasionally!

I was on the verge of returning it to my Sony shop yesterday, and now I'm glad I didn't.

Thanks again.

Exclamation Sony HD5 Remote

meant to ask ......

Has anybody seen or used the remote for the Sony HD5?

I'm interested in getting one but the local Sony shop say they have to order it in on a "special" and that it will be £75.00!.... and they can't show me what it looks like either!

Cheers,

Tim
