Unhappy Will this work as 5.1

Hi

I want to output 5.1 sound from my computer to surround sound amp via optical connection will this sound card work http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=85533
it has optical out but it has a review saying that it wont output 5.1 over optical cable
HELP please

It can be a real PITA to get 5.1 out of most sound cards! I know, I've had problems, even with Soundblaster!

It maybe just that the reviewers didn't know how to do it, but as I don't have the card I can't say for sure. You have to configure the sound cards for pass through. ie, you don't want them to decode the 5.1 signal and present it to the analogue speaker ports. You want the diital signal straight off the DVD.

Maybe someone on here has one of these cards and can say for sure.

The 5.1 in this case refers to Dolby Digital Live Encloding which passes a 5.1 from a game to the optical real time. Digital DD/DTS passthrough in movies will work fine.
