Writing cd in Atrac - what Kbps size give's you the best quality sound ??

Hi

While writing a cd in Atrac mode, it gives you the option to choose the size (in kBps) to write the atrac files.

The following options exists:

Atrac3plus 256 or 64 or 48Kbps and 132 or 105 or 66 Kbps

With the idea in mind to fit the MAXIMUM number of songs onto the cd, which of the above named sizes gives you the best sound quality ??

For best quality sound, go for 256kbps but for space, I suggest 64kbps. As you're looking for a bitrate that encompasses both, 132 kbps using Atrac3 (not plus) would be the best.



I think 64kbps gives the quality of a 128 mp3 but my view is skewed toward good sound quality.

I think just because there is no 132kbps using ATRAC3Plus - that has its own set of bitrates. I don't actually think there are any common bitrates between 3 and 3+.

why not do a test yourself? some have said they found 64kbps, even 48 to be acceptable. If not, 105/132 looks like the way to go.

I have all my MP3's at 128, and for me the quality is acceptable. What does that compare with in Atrac3+? 66? Wouldn't mind a little better though, like the quality of 192 MP3. Is that comparable to 105 Atrac3+?

What are the advantages of Atrac3+ over MP3? I can see one big disadvantage and that is that most people use MP3. A big advantage is that Atrac3+ plays gapless, right? I have many rips that are long broken up remixes that should play gapless.

It is generally accepted that ATRAC3plus at 64K delivers better sound quality than a 128K MP3 and at about half the size.

So the main advantage is that you can fit more music onto your player using ATRAC.

EDIT - forgot to mention, battery life is also enhanced playing ATRAC files.
