My appologies if this is posted in the wrong place, but ive just joint, and i have a quick question:

my uncle currently has two ariels in the loft, a tv one and an fm one.

they are then diplexed into 1 coax cable, fed to the front room where it is then connected to a TV/FM wall socket, that then goes to the TV and Tuner via two cables.

as far as i know, this has been working well for years, however he wants to upgrade to a dab tuner.

sooooo....

if he changes the fm aerial to a dab aerial, and the fm tuner to a dab reciver, can he still use the tv/fm diplexer and wall socket?

so what i need to know is, what is the frequency spectrum of dab radio? and how does it comare to FM?

Many thanks for your help

This actually depends on the design of the diplexer.
DAB uses the old band III TV frequencies (something like 170-220 MHz).

FM analogue radio uses 88-108 MHz.

Band IV and V (UHF TV) uses something like 470-820 MHz.

From this you can work out the diplexer response that is needed.

Yes but it can sometimes be a wee bit hit and miss. You will also have to check whether you get DAB reception where you are.

It should be fine, my experience of UHF/VHF diplexers are that they will do 40-230MHz for the VHF.

From experience, my DAB tuner will not work from the FM output of an FM/UHF splitter.

I run my DAB tuner from a powered TV amp/splitter, just connected to the television aerial & this works fine !
