MP3 Ripping best software?

Well seeing as ill be getting my mp3 player very soon!

i need to start ripping stuff off my cds.

i have ripped some cds with the nero6 ripper but i find that unless the cd is perfect i will get lots of crackling, hissing and popping.

can anyone point me in the direction of some good free ripping software that might not give me so much crackling etc etc

thanks

A lot may depend on which MP3 player you are thinking of getting. For better sounding rips I use Audiograbber which you can configure to give you very high quality MP3s if required. I also find iTunes good, but you will need XP or W2K for that.

I get the impression that with the Sony MP3 players you can only put MP3s on them if they have been ripped with Sonicstage.... although I may be wrong !

I haven't had any problems loading all my MP3s onto my HD3 and none of them have been ripped with SonicStage.

I must admit I like the looks of the HD5, and that battery life is nothing short of stunning.

My version has a button with a Penguin on (Freedb) try clicking that and it should download the track names if you are connected to the internet

ok

just ripped a song with audiograbber and nero and theres no difference.

there are crackles and hisses in the same places - i guess its the cd

but when the automatic cd player comes up and plays it straight from the cd it sounds fine

but - when i attempt to play it from the cd in winamp or windows media i still get hissing and crackling LOL!

how annoying ey!
