How do i make a 16.9 diy screen

can some one please give me any ideas on how i can do this i would like to make a 6 foot screen so i have seen that i could make it out of blackout meterial but really dont now how and also how do you then put your black lines around this. oplease forgive as i am a complete newbie to this

A craftsman at work! Those corners sure are neat.

Buy a 3mm sheet of expanded polyurethane (foamex). Cut it to size with a stanley knife. Screw it to the wall with four screws (white screw head covers make it look neat). Job done. :-)

Is this serious ? Is the surface smooth ? Is this from a DIY store ?

Yes, it is serious. There are several threads discussing the merits of foamex. I don't know if it is available from your local DIY store but it can be ordered over the internet and the supplier will arrange delivery to your home. I got mine from Holbourne Industrial Plastics Ltd, who have a website at http://www.holbourne.co.uk/

Foamex does sound intriguing.

I'd be slightly wary of the hotspotting though, and I think it's not as clear cut as "hang the PJ from the ceiling and you won't see hot spots". I'd guess lots of aspects such as distance, height, lens shift, type of lens eg long throw/short throw may govern if you are unlucky enough to see the lamp glow from your ideal viewing position.

Out of interest what's the going rate for an 8ftx4ft piece?

Thanks. I'm looking for an 8ft screen which will need to be 54" high so I'll get a price for 10ftx5ft.

Are you quite sure it does the job ? At £50 it's cheap if your right .

I used plain 75mm x 18mm wood from B&Q and stretched/styapled blackout fabric over it. It cost less than £28 at the time (84" wide 16:9). I glued and screwed the frame together and you can't see the wood underneath. I've since bought some 1.2 gain material from www.ellie.co.uk and stretched that over the top when I bought a new pj.

Foamex works very well. It is better than a white painted wall. The surface must be very similar to a commercial screen, but without the tendency to ripple as it is not a fabric. It is also fairly cheap. It may not be quite as cheap as black-out material stretched over a frame but it is much less hassle and probably better quality.

ok guys thats great im gona go for blackout meteial its 3.99 a meter but now i need to no how to put the black borders on and wat size it should be
