All Singing All Dancing PDA

Hi all

Can anyone recommend a good PDA that will do the following..... Its gonna have to be powerfull me thinks:

1. Act as a remote control to operate Denon 3802, Pio 435xde, Denon 2900, Sky+, Lumagen HDP.

2. Act as a sat nav, tom tom etc

3. Play multimedia files.... music, dvd etc

4. Function as a HHPC, Microsoft Word, Excel etc

Am I asking too much? If not what sort of cost are you looking at and where is the best place to buy from?

Thanks in advance.

Steve

I'd look for a iPAQ 2210.
It has a consumer grade IR port and comes with Nevo remote control program.
Buy a CF or SD wireless card.

I have an HP 2210 and can confirm it should be able to do what you want. It has built in bluetooth and I bought a Linksys CF WiFi card for wireless networking. I've used it as a remote control using the supplied Nevo and this can learn codes from any remotes not in it's database. The 2210 is getting on a bit so I'm not sure how it will cope with movies, it copes with MP3s OK but I've never tried watching a DVD ripped to fit on a SD/CF card yet.
There are newer models out from HP but you must make sure that they have the consumer grade IR otherwise they won't work as remotes.
One word of caution, the WiFi cards use power at an alarming rate when in use so don't rely on that for long sessions.

yes be careful with the IR, the IR on all of the I-Mate PDA'S (AKA o2 xda/t-mobile mda/Orange spv) as the IR on these will not work as a remote control

Hi all

Thanks for the replies so far, it has pointed me in the direction of the ipaq. I've been doing a bit of surfing and like the look of the 4700. I don't think it has Nevo on it though. Has anyone got an opinion on this model?

cheers

Steve

Get one with Nevo - they're cheap, very functional and do everything you want.

400Mhz, 64mb ROM, SD slot, Bluetooth IPAQ 3970 around £100-130 on eBay. Remote/PDA bargain of the year....

There's no mention of the 4700 having the consumer grade IR and with no bundled Nevo as well I would guess that it can't be used as a remote control.

I would go for a Dell Axim if you havent already bought the HP. The Axim X30 will do everything you way and for remote control features just get a copy of PDAWIN and away you go.

Looks like an HP iPAQ RX3715 will do what you want. £272 from ebuyer, plus about £150 for Tom Tom software, GPS receiver and car-cradle for sat-nav.

Cheers,
Liam
