Is anyone here going to the Smart Home Show (Apr 14-17, NEC Birmingham)? (http://www.smarthomeshow.co.uk/)

I think some people have mentioned exhibiting there, but who's planning to go, exhibiting or just as a visitor?

You can get free tickets here (http://www.simplyautomate.co.uk/events.asp) although I'm not sure if there's enough time left.

I might have one spare ticket, if anyone from Cambridge fancies going up...

I'll be there with a number of my installers. Stand 3110 if you want to pop by.

Should have a couple of new / launch products on the stand and maybe a couple of show specials (I am still working on those)

Might be doing a night on the town with one of our manufacturers as well, I'll keep you posted.

We're going to the home building show the same weekend, and will hopefully be visiting smart home if we have enough time.

I'd rather visit smart home and do the self build if we have time, but needs must and all that.

If anyone from Cambridge or nearby wants a lift and a spare ticket, I'm now going up on the Sunday and I do have a spare seat & ticket. Send me a PM.

It's a shame really, I wanted to take my wife to show her what can be done and why we should spend some cash on it, but she's working both days!

I'm trying to persuade the wife to go. We are planning a self build house but to be honest I'm more interested in the smart home show that the self build one.

Hi new here, looks like a very nice site. I'll be going along for a good route around to see what's new and exciting in the world of Ci and smart homes.
Looking forward to a good day out.

Yes we are also going, want to look at the new Cardio Home Automation System, I was told it is on a stand called I Q Your Home, by all accounts it pretty simple to install and operate and not to pricey :smashin:

Hi All,

First post, but I've been lurking around for a while!

I'm off the Smart Homes Show as a CI exhibitor - "Saran Home Technology", Stand 3118. I've also got a few free tickets left if anyone needs them.

Look forward to meeting you there,

Nick Woodbyrne

vex,

hows the big plans going for the show launch?

Slowly,

Was supposed to be away skiing/boarding last week, leading a kids Easter ski trip and fell down the flippin steps of the coach at Dover going out!

Spent the whole week with it strapped up and ice, off to doctors in a mo.

To really rub it in the resort had a foot of snow dumped on it Friday and Saturday which would have been a real blast!

Current Tally is

2 x Show product launches (1 informal, 1 formal)
3 x Special Offers*
1 x New retail web site launch
1 x new integration idea*

More info on the stand (ssshhhh - 3110)

* Fingers crossed they happen / work!

I was there for a couple of hours.
Bought a remote from Konnect2. Got a free DTS demo disc from Severnoaks!
Not really my sort of show to be honest, but it was good to see the new Hitachi's!

Definately worth the trip down from Newcastle this morning. My wife saw the Sevenoaks demo living room and, as she watched the scenn and projector disappear into the celing, said "that would be good in our living room"

:thumbsdow Not being new either to home theater or home automation, I felt the show was a complete and utter waste of time. If I hadn't been there for other reasons (Building a new house (with 2 cinema systems)) then I would have been somewhat dismayed at having to fork out 7 quid to park! If anything could have been gleaned it would have been more practical advice on systems such as Crestron AMX Smart Controls etc, but frankly in such an atmosphere that was nigh on impossible. Just going off topic for a mo though anyone wanting the coolest remote without breaking the bank try out http://www.wincesoft.de/index.html

The problem with the show is that it is a spin off from the Home Building and Renovating Show and as such a lot (including me) did not know how good it would or would not be.

For us on the Konnect2 stand it was a great show, both installers and home owners walking around and alot of them do not know what is possible, so it was great to be able to educate them a little. You have to remember that a large number of these don't know how to distribute Sky around the house let alone what CBUS or X10 does! The number of people I had asking me about a 'Loftbox' system after my seminar was quite amazing.

Yes it is nice to see the 'whizzy' AMX, Crestron systems but the majority of people can not afford them. There was a number of us that had a diverse range of solutions to meet a range of budgets.

I accept that our stand was not a complete range but you don't throw money at a new show like that when you don't know what the visitor numbers or quality are going to be.

We have booked for next years, we are going to be bigger and have a more diverse range to suit more budgets.

See you there!

Disappointed.

Not many stands, some of the staff were not technical and could not answer questions, Siemens was a complete waste of time.

OK if you just want a system without wanting to know the techncial side.

Saw more smart home stuff at Interbuild last year!

We went for the Homebuilding Show and, to be honest, the smart home show was a bonus for me. I guess it must be hard for exhibitors at such a show where you get such a huge range of knowledge from the visitors.
