Denon SD500 Noisy Drive

Help! My Denon when playing DVD's has a noisy drive tray. It spins and and is clearly audible during quiter moments in films. Is this normal or is this unique to my box?

Hey there

Is the Drive noisy for all DVD's? Some DVD's dont have the greatest weight distribution which can induce a wee wobble.

The only other thing i can think of is the fan noise that occurs over a certain volume. You could try turning the volume right down and making sure it is not the fan causing the noise

The fan kicks in at volume level 45, so see if that's the noise you can hear. If it is the fan then you can go into the DVD settings and incresease all channel settings to +10dB, with the sub woofer at around +5dB or +6dB. With the channel level increase you might find that you never have to go over 45 on the volume.

I think it is a fan noise now you have pointed it out. I have the volume at 55. 40 seems very low. I will try to add db's to the speakers. Will the sound be the same quality with this method?

Shouldn't effect quality. I tend to find that Dolby Digital films seem to output at a lower volume and require the volume to be set above 45, where as DTS tracks are louder and can quite often sit just below 45. I guess it's all down to room size and personal listening prefs.

If you look at other threads regarding the 500 and fan noise people have used the +10db and say it makes no difference to their listening pleasure.

Well I have done the 10db and yes it is slightly better but......

If you really want some sound that dam fan comes on at 45 sound level. So who is bold and knows how to knock it out or raise the click in volume?
