Post Pioneer DVL-909 Hack to play region 2 DVD's

I just bought an old DVL-909 and read in the HCC August 1998 review that there is a simple hack to make the machine play region 2 DVD's. Can anyone help me with this? The instructions were supposed to be in the same issue, unfortunately the last archived issue is September 1998.

Thanks
