denon 2805 speaker connection

Anyone know where i can get some speaker wire pins which i can attach to my cable and plug into my denon 2805 ? i think the size of the hole is 2mm

i am having great trouble finding some

Hi,
Any electrical accessory shop should sell these - I think you are referring to speade terminals?!?

I have silver soldered the cables at the connection with the speaker posts on the 2805, and just unscrewed the terminals and then re tightened etc...

no the connectores i am talking about are like a banana plug but not spring loaded and are only 2mm

Hi Neal,

Theres no need to buy adaptors,the posts on the back of the 2805 WILL accept normal 4mm banana plugs you just need to remove the plastic blanking plugs first.
The plugs are different from the old "mushroom" headed types that easily popped out with a small flat screwdriver.What I've found best to remove the hollow plugs is to use a medium sized wood screw inserted into the hole,(the small 2mm one on the inner of the screw down knurled piece), twist it slightly as if you are screwing it in,then keeping a clockwise pressure on the screw,pull outwards and the plug will pop out.
Note they are tight little buggers,and may require you to repeat the operation a couple of times but they WILL definatley come out, GUARANTEED. I have used this method on my own 2805,and now have all 7 speakers wired up using 4mm banana plugs.

You don't require any plug termination on your speaker cable do you? This is just aother point of resistance. My Hi-Fi man informs me that I needn't buy any Bannana plugs (or similar) as my cable can be terminated directly to the 2805 speaker connections.

Thanks for the advice "mechanic" much appriciated i will try that tommorow as i bought 4mm banana plugs only to find thay did not fit. but i will try and remove them plugs tomorrow.

p.s i was told that using connectors instead for putting the cable straight into the post was better due to the fact that the connection was alot more secure and more surface area was touching the posts giving it a better connection.

anyone know if it is worse or better to use the conenctors?

Yeah of course you can just connect the cable into the screwdown connectors, but I've found that using banana plugs makes it easier and neater to connect up.
I did have my previous amp (denon 2802) connected up without banana's and found that having 9 twinned cables (front 3 speakers were and still are BI-WIRED) to be a total mess with the cables "sprouting out" at all angles to fit them all in
With the banana plugs, the cables are now nice and neat,there are no worries about stray strands of bare wire that could short out on adjacent connectors or back panel of the amp, and with regards to banana plugs being a point of extra resistance, it should'nt make a bit of difference as some of the better banana's allow you to use quite thick speaker cable that you could'nt normally fit directly to the binding post therefore negating any extra resistance, (not that there would be anyway).
If this was the case the we may as well do away with the humble 3 pin plug used to connect all our kit to the mains and stick the bare wires into the wall socket and stop any unwanted resistance. (note I do NOT NOT recommend anyone to do this )

it was just what "digisocialist" said which made me think.

while on the subject did you find much diffrence Bi-Wireing your speakers. i have the Evo3B setup and wonderd if Bi-Wireing them will make much diffrence

BI-WIRING did make a marked difference to the sound of my MISSION's, making the sound more open and controlled.There are however "bones of contention" with regards to the benefits (or not) of BI-WIRING, but at the end of the day if you have enough cable and the speakers are compatable with BI-WIRING then give it a go, if it sounds better to YOU then it is.
Just a note, if you do decide to BI-WIRE connect both runs of each cable (+ to +, - to -) to the speakers A posts on the amp as the auto set-up on the 2805 only sends a test tone via speakers A. I origonally wired the bass terminals to speakers A and the tweeters to speakers B,and cocked up the auto set-up
Once you've BI-WIRED, re-run the auto set-up to make sure of any difference to the sound and see how you get on.

yes your advise was spot on ! its always the little thing you over look aint it

i simply pulled them out with a screw like you said. put my banana plugs on the end of the cables and put them in.

i must admit things like that just finish the job off.. looks well better now at the back of my AVR, much tidyer.

i have not tryed Bi-wiring them i am very happy with the sound i have got at the moment + i dont fancy running all the cable in again...

Thanks to the Mechanic for a brilliant tip. I'd have been arsing about with all those wires for ages on the back of my 2805 (and you never do seem to get a good connection with bare wires, do you?). Nice one Mechanic.

Just got my new 2805 and was about to go back to the dealer to claim he'd sold me banana plugs which were too big! Fortunately I thought I'd check here first, so Mechanic's tip has saved me much embarrassment - thanks

You would have thought it's something that should be in the manual....
