Does anybody remember Starfleet from the 80's. It was a puppet show i think and had a ship that transformed into a robot. I thought it was great but haven't seen it in years. So was wondering is there a dvd out of it or will there be a dvd coming soon.

yep me too...thought I was the only one...there's a guy on ebay selling vcd's copied from vhs...that's as close as we'll get for a while I think as there seem to be some legal issues with regard to who owns the show/dvd rights...

Hi,

I'd love to get this show on legal DVD. I still remember watching this show every Saturday morning on ITV, back when I was a young'un! I loved the show. I can still remember most of the crew's names: Dr Ben, Shiro, Lee, Hercules, Princess Lamia!!

It's a shame there's never been a repeat UK TV showing on any channel, not even on satellit TV. :(

I’d be after it if it came out.

It is one of my favourite shows I remember talking about t on a number of threads and posting a couple of links myself to site one where you could listen to the music from the show.

From what I believe, the master tapes have not been looked after correctly and they can't get a decent enough transfer to justify releasing a dvd, and I also believe that some of the episodes are actually missing. It is a real shame as this was an excellent show and has only ever been shown twice and I have always managed to miss the final episode!! There is a site by a die hard fan who has put a few clips on there, the quality isn't good but it sure is cool to see parts of the show again; I guess I'll just have to be content with the Brian May & Friends soundtrack lp!!

Loved this show as a kid....i'm surprised people old enough at the time struggle to remember it as it was a massively popular show.

Heard the end theme a while ago after I'd got a hold of a copy and am not ashamed to say it brought a tear to my eye!!

Altogether now..."Send a message out across the sky!!!"

Great.

One of my worst childhood memories was missing Starfleet and getting dragged to Sunday School. It was the coolest kids show on at the time ....i think i'm gonna start crying again :( .....I can't continue.

:) This was my favourite when i was a kid most people think iam nuts when i talk about it i have a link at home for a web site that sell vcd and div x versions ill dig it out and post it later tonight.

The bad guys were so cool and relatively scary for a kids show.

what was the evil chick called again?Commander Makara she was the one with the mask like patch over one eye.

I would have though there would have been a good version of it out there although not a master but surly there had loads of duplicates that were realised round the world.

HI,

What about the Japanese original masters? Couldn't they simply be duplicated and released, with English subtitles, or are the Japanese masters also messed-up?

Secondly, even if a reasonable version could be released, minus perfect picture and sound, I'd still pay for it, as long as the release was at a suitably low price, to compensate.

Lastly, why can't someone digitise an off-air recording from the TV transmissions? Or, what about ITV's masters? Don't they keep broadcastable masters anymore?

The thing I remember best about Starfleet was its brilliant theme tune, which was made by the great Haim Saban/Shuki Levy team (who made countless other kids' TV themes — and they were all brilliant!).

HI,

WARNING! Both of the above-mentioned websites are selling pirated copies, of VHS versions, or downloads off of P2P networks.

Avoid them, as buying from these :censored: merchants, is not going to help get an official release!

I don't personally think it counts as piracy if you sell something on disc that is only available on VHS.

I mean, it's not piracy to sell discs of things that are taped off the TV that have never been sold on video, so it's hardly any worse to sell something that's never been released on disc. If you don't own a VCR, you have no other way of getting hold of the show.

An analogy is it's like selling CDs of music that isn't available on CD. That's not illegal, is it?

Hi Grand Dizzy,

I don't personally think it counts as piracy if you sell something on disc that is only available on VHS.

An analogy is it's like selling CDs of music that isn't available on CD. That's not illegal, is it?

1) If you don't own the copyright to a programme, and you've not been given the okay to distribute and sell copies, then IT'S illegal.

2) It IS piracy to sell things taped off of TV, no matter what the reason/excuse is.

3) It IS piracy to sell things that haven't ever been legitimately released on DVD or VHS. Ditto, for any kind of VCD versions.

4) Selling music that isn't legally available, IS illegal, I'm afraid! Imagine someone deciding to sell something that you had drawn, made, written or created, and spent ages doing. If you haven't given permission for that person to use your item, then they are breaking the law!

Ultimately, if you aren't the owner of the programme, music or film, and you haven't been given complete, legal permission to distribute such items by the legal owner of the copyright, then you are breaking the law! There are no exceptions to this, when it comes to TV shows, films, animations, music, et al.

As for the sites being blatant, if you can't get it legally, then there's a 99% chance it'll be an illegal copy!

If you cant get it legally then there is a 100% chance it is an illegal copy surely????

The Star Wars DVD's ripped from the LD's spring to mind!

Pooch, I guess everything you said is true of what is legal.

I was thinking more about what is moral. I don't think it's unethical to distribute something that isn't legally available to buy. If I want to watch a TV show that has never been available in the shops then I have no moral problem downloading it.

But I guess if you sell it then it is quite a different matter, since selling someone else's work, that that you didn't pay for, is quite clearly wrong.
