New TV - Channel 5 question

Hope this is the right forum for this question.

After some deliberatig I bought a Panasonic TX32PD50 at the weekend from a local dealer.

Set it up on Saturday and so far I've been very impressed. In particular DVDs look great and the sound is good enough to make be think twice about buying a home cinema amp.

Only real problem so far is some slight ghosting on BBC1 and 2 channels (which is also present on my old TV) and poor quality Channel 5. The only way to describe Ch. 5 is like the picture has a 'mesh' of small diamonds across it. Not always visible but present most of the time.

Channel 5 onthe old TV is not perfect either so I'm guessing that the diamonds are a result of the PD50's processing of lower quality signal?

Big questions is - if I buy a FV box will that clean things up OR, because the Ch 5 signal is poor, will I get low quality out of FV.

Accoring to the web site I'm not in coverage for FV but I know others can get it and the guy who installed my Aerial said "if you can get Ch5 you can get FV).

TIA,
Carl

Spinout,

All the problems you describe are down to poor signals (particularly Ch5) which your new Panny, with its fancy processing, is making look worse.

Hope this helps.

(Pardon my ignorance, but what is FV please? )

Spinout,

I'm not sure about the connection between Ch5 and Freeview, as they are completely different.

If you can get Freeview, then that should solve all your problems.

(But I still think you need a new aerial! )

Good luck.
