Sky+ optical out to Sony DAVS 800

I've got a Pace 3100 v2 from simplydigital and plugged in a JVC optical cable from Sky+ to Sony DAVS 800 (video2). But get no output through the Sony on any channel (even ones with DD).

Have I missed something?
Does Composite video need to be provided through the DAVS 800 ?
I'm guessing because the instructions say so little it should just be a case of plug the cable in and it works!
Where would I best start to troubleshoot this as I've never used optical cables before? Swap cable? test with different input source?

Is this the screen where I change it from Normal to Dolby Digital ?
