Samsung sp46l3hx
I ordered it today from Electrical Discount UK.
They didn't have it in stock when I called, but they said they will order it from Samsung.
Samsung told me before that this model will be available from Currys and Dixons but the promised date has already passed!
I know now it's too late but I'd like to make myself believe that I made a best decision.
People who got this already, are you happy with your Samsung DLP?

Hold tight buddy - I may be getting the Samsung SP46L3HX in the next 48 hours!!!!!!
Once I have it - I'll post you some (hopefully very positive) feedback!!!! In fact, I've ordered several units for myself and a few friends!!!!
FYI - I decided on this unit after PERSONALLY seeing all of the following:
Samsung SP50L7 (the pedestal cool looking one), Optoma RD50, Toshiba 46WM48, Sagem Axium and Sim2 Domino 45.
So hang in there.
Maybe "mikb" (his profile name) may want to give his additional 2 pennies' worth on this TV as he's already got it...?

Where did you order it from?
I called ED today to be told that the order has been cancelled because the product has been discontinued. They said they don't sell it anymore.
Who really has this TV in stock????????????

I can't say too much on this at the moment - basically, an ex-work supplier we used to work with is setting up an AV branch to their business and are looking to source these in limited numbers at a good price for selling to corporates......
Will give you more info soon on this. Also, price will be good too!

I have seen lots of DLP tellies now..............most of them in the states granted (with hd feeds) but also seen the toshiba dlp HD2+, Thomson dlp HD3, sagem HD2, and samsung in currys HD2+, and can honestly say that the PQ between all these sets is very very and i mean very minimal difference between them.............and as for say the optoma is the best by a long shot it may well be but i have not seen is so cant comment!! just letting you people who keep thinking oh dont want to go for this and dont want to go for that cuz it has HD2 instead of HD3 or HD2+ is better blah blah blah they may be different in the spec but the difference is not huge at all!!!!! I have seen the americian version of the new sp46l3hx (granted is different with alot of things but should be similiar) but can honestly say the only reason i was going to buy it was cuz i did not want the sagem (no hdcp, looks of telly) and it was the only one that was being advertised at the time as a hdtv (september!!!).
ps have also seen the the LG and can say that its fualts out way its merits eg not HDTV glaring on the screen is BAD and picture quality (granted rf feed) was horrible in five different locations i went to 2 were in engineers mode as there was something wrong with them and an engineer had to come to see them.......hope i have not put anyone off as a Telly is a very personal thing (one person likes what another doesnt) and these days people buy them as a piece of furniture that also should produce a good picture!!!!!!
sorry for going on abit and the long read

Would appreciate the info on the Samsung Krishna.
I can't decide between the Tosh and the Samsung. I think the Tosh would look to over powering due to the speakers attached to the side. Any feedback on the Samsung quality compared to the Tosh?

Anyone know the differences between the SP46L3HX and the SP43L2HX apart from size and price??
How do the samsungs compare against the LG DLP. Was looking at the Tosh but the speakers on the side make it too wide.

Dear All, including Molly, Timanfiya and Lizzard:
For some answers and also good news, see below:
Firstly, your questions answered:
1. Molly - see further below for my initial comments on my brand new Samsung's picture quality, etc...
2. Lizzard: Major difference between the 46L3HX/50L3HX and the 50L7HX (the one with the cute, but space wasting triangular pedestal underneath) is very simply this:
The L7 model is most expensive and uses HD2+ DLP chip, contrast ratio (theoretically) 2500:1, whereas the L3 models use HD3 chip, contrast ratio 1500:1 - but also incorporates other benefits such as Darkchip2 and SmoothPicture (TM) technology, which the L7 doesn't.
I can honestly tell you (having seen both L7 and L3 models SIDE by SIDE at a corporate location as well as other places), that the L3 model is a BETTER picture!!!!! Do NOT be misled by people anywhere in AVFOrums who mean well by telling you that HD2+ should be better than HD3 - TRUST ME - I've seen both for over 4 HOURS viewing and concluded that the HD3 unit has a more natural, film-like picture. And the contrast ratio thing - there really is very LITTLE difference in practical viewing - HONESTLY!!!!!!! I can honestly say that this SP46L3HX and the Optoma RD50 are the 2 best DLP units available in the UK right now - FULL STOP. And my preference between the two goes to SP46L3 - both for external looks and the SMOOTHER picture (it's still sharp, don't worry) achieved by the excellent Samsung DNIe3 and HD3 plus 7-SEGMENT technology.
Finally price - SP46L3 should set you back no more than £1750 (what I paid for it). And I have no hesitation in saying that it was worth every penny so far...
3. TimanFiya - Difference between the SP46L3HX and SP43L2HX is very simple - and very fundamental - the former is DLP (see 2 above for more details), whilst the latter is an LCD-based rear-pro. I've seen both - I assure you (and I'm sure most DLP posting members will agree) that you're best to stick to the newer SP46L3HX as the DLP technology offers so much more benefits - eg true HD (the latter doesn't), no need to convergence ever (even though some manufacturers promise so-called "auto convergence" !! ha! as well Contrast Ratio and Sharpness - both winners on the DLP unit).
Finally INITIAL OBSERVATIONS on my new Samsung SP46L3HX:
Sky picture quality (PQ) through RGB based SCART cable from a Grundig Sky Digital box - SURPRISINGLY good!! Typical tests on Channel 5, BBC1 (poss the best channel), MTV, SKY 1 etc show a remarkably good image - DEF better than most plasmas I've seen (even at people's houses with the same setup) and I'd say better than every other DLP set I've seen so far (LG, Toshiba, Sagem, Thomson; though Samsung L7 DLP + Optoma came close).
DVD PQ through RGB Scart cable from Panasonic DVDS75 - VERY VERY GOOD - BLADE and MATRIX RELOADED both looked RAZOR SHARP (without even switching to the TV's "Dynamic" mode) - EXCELLENT BLACK LEVEL DETAILS (in dark scenes, can still see knitwork on Morpheus and Keanu's black coats/jackets), VERY GOOD CONTRAST (in the scene where Neo/Keanu fights in the downstairs "reception" or landing with those 8 or 9 guys sent by that french-accent guy) - great black side by side with white/cream statues - and guess what? You can STILL SEE details in the white statues - so contrast does NOT overpower the the white-level OR black level details...
Great blacks - eg Neo's female sidekick's leather outfit is blacker than even the lovely black frame on the outside of the Sammy's screen...
NO PIXELATION and NO motion artefacts/blurring; also NO JAGGED LINES - YES - I could hardly believe it - after having compared and sadly seen jagged lines on Toshiba, Sagem, LG, and others - using same DVD and RGB scart/Components for source....
Sound Quality - GREAT bass and treble and spaciousness - as good as the Toshiba DLP (which I consider joint best for sound quality with this Sammy) - better than Optoma, Samsung L7 DLP, others.
OK - Sorry for the long post guys. Hope all this helps.
The company I bought mine from are likely to get more very soon - same price £1750 I believe, whilst they'll possibly get the L7 for less than the current RRP of £3500 in all these Currys, COmet, etc - apparently around £2,700...
Feedback welcome.
Finally - keep in mind that the DVD review above was just all through RGB SCART - haven't even tried Components with Prog scan yet!!!!
Krishna.

Well you are in a very small minority for thinking the HD3 chip is better then the HD2+ chip, and when i saw the american version of the sammy 46'' dlp i did not think it blew me away and was not any better then the the RCA (thomson 50dly645) conterpart in the states again (maybe somethings are different but i doubt anything major) and when compared to the HD2+ kirk model which is what the americans can the pedestal sammy for some reason i thought he HD2+ blew it away granted with hidef material though so maybe you are right that the HD3 TI chip is better with SD material but i do not know other then to tell you that the thomson had the same HD3 chip and i did not think it was better then the HD2+ maybe on par at most.......remember that samsung and thomson are the only companies that offer the HD3 chip and that the HD3 chip from texas instruments is actually there cheapest chip and was developed to cut costs and as a lower cost alternative for manufactors (no bull). But once again everyone all of the tellys based on DLP right now are good in my opinion except for the LG IMHO which is not hidef compatible and PQ is in the eye of the beholder..
ps samsung is the biggest seller of DLP rear pro tellies in the world and have a been making them the longest in mass production so should have ironed out all the bugs in theory anyways

welsh113, the chip used is certainly a huge factor in picture quality, but don't you think its implementation, the image enhancing gizmos, etc etc, have a considerable impact too?

i totally agree!!!!! Just stating the fact that his argument is based on the HD3 chip being better...........you are right though there are lots of factors to a good picture i just wish the UK would get its act together and give us some real choice like in the states (i know i keep mentioning it) but they have a choice of panasonic, mits,LG (proper hd models) of course samsung and the RCA models with the toshiba in there also........plus they are far in advance with the LCD rearpros which are meant to be almost if not on par with the dlp rear pros with the black levels being compareable!!!!! So the future looks rosey and there will be many many more opinions of which one is best and of course hopefully competition will drive prices down like it has over the pond

Thanks for the great post Krishna.
Have you tried connecting a PC? Love to hear some feedback on PQ, dvd via Theatertek or even some hi-def.
Who is the elusive dealer with the sets on stock?
