Denon 2805

I have been reading with interest the recommendations for various receivers...being in the market for one tends to sharpen the mind.

I have been looking for a review of the Denon 2805, but cannot find a professional review of the machine or even a an amateur review. 2803 yes and the higher priced 3805...any suggestions anyone?

Ok lets go for broke.

Any suggestions for DVD, Speakers etc.

My budget for the lot will be about £1500.

Any help would be gartefully appreciated.

Well if you want a suggestion for a setup...

how about...

Denon 2805, Kef 2005.2 Speakers, and Pioneer 575A DVD.

You can get that little lot for sub £1500. (just enough left over to get some cables) I've got that setup...well I will have when i get the pioneer for xmas.

Shop around www.creative-audio.co.uk do the Denon and the Kefs for £1190 (with a bunch of leads) quite a bargain. I didn't get mine from there, but got my local superfi to price match

The Denon 2805 has been reviewed in the mags, one even voted it receiver of the year.

Hi there,

Right... a while ago I was looking at getting myself a Denon 3805. circumstances at the time dictated that I wasn;t going to (pure flash factor...) But..... but....

Now... My 2802 is dead. Well not completely dead, thats in another post about the exact symptoms but I think the digital inputs are dead basically. It still works but only on certain modes, and then with certain inputs.

Anyway. I'm guessing a 'direct' replacement is the 2805, given range number. And the only thing I can see different from my original wantings is the extra power and the denon link??

(I've searched the forum, but can;t see the answer I'm looking for)

couple questons for you.... Denon Link.... What exactly is this, I've looked at the bumpf but still not entirely sure and it it worth it?

I've searched around here but can;t really make my mind up about the 2805. I know I should listen to it first, before I buy, but I just want your opinions on what it sounds like, how it performs?? In the same price bracket is there anything else I should really be lookin at?

Oh and for the rest of my system; B&W 602s3 front, 601s3 rear, LCR60 front. sky, video, Tosh 520e DVD and connected via component. Would this amp be a suitable partner for the system, given that I've been more than happy with the 2802???

Thanks for all your help. Sorry if it's been posted elsewhere but I can;t see a simple answer?? (Is there one??)

ta.

The 2805 does not have denon link, only the 3805.

Also denon link provides a link between appliances with high bandwidth without much distortion, though i sam open to correction on that.

Hi Cypher, yeah you're right the 2805 doesn't have the link. I guess thats what I was asking though if I should pay the extra for some more future proofing. Is it worth it? I expected my own to last a bit longer but hey ho.

It all depends on whether you intend to buy a lot of denon equipment?

It can't be used with other manufacturers as far as i know, and only seems avialble on middle/high end denon equipment.

Though i can see the benefits of it, if the only reason for going for that model is for the denon link, then imo it is not worth the extra.

I have £600, and will get the 2805, as the 3805 and 2805 seem identical, apart from power output, and the denon link. There are other subtle differences, but from what i can tell, nothing that huge.

I am less sure on my dvd player, i want the 2910, but they are to expensive, the only one in budget is the 1710.

Plan what your setup will consist of, and then see if the added benefits, and cost of higher specs are going to benefit.

You could get a yamaha 1500/2500 from germany and save yourself a small fortune. Comparable to the denons spec and perormance wise.

thats a nice lookig piece of kit actually but how does it compare with the denon?? has anyone demo'd both machines??
Does it upconvert to component like the denon? This is something I'm looking at using in the near future!!!

Going with the past, is the 2805 going to replaced this year with the 2806??!! Given I have a busted 2802, but It's Feb, whats just aroudn the corner if anyone has any ideas???

I hate upgradeitis.... even though this has forced my hand!!! lol Going to demo some kit tomorrow so I'm sure I'll have a shiny new 'something' to play with!!

Oh and I've doen some looking around, Krish AV seems to be about the cheapest supplier that I've heard is good. Would my local 'Audio-T' price match against them??

ta muchely again!!!

There are one or two reviews linked at the top of page 1 on this topic for Integrated Amplifiers & Receivers..

I researched this receiver before purchasing and found 4 or 5 tests/reviews through google ( try something like 2805 + denon + test ...)
