I wasnt sure where to post this issue. I have the DVE dvd and was wondering what is the best way to calibrate the picture on my NEC 1000 and my Pioneer 868. Is it best to say leave the Pj on one of its factory presets and adjust the dvd player or vice versa or a mixture of them being adjusted. DVe doesnt seem to recommend any particular way of doing this. My hunch is its best to adjust the settings on the source and not the display as I recall reading this somewhere once.
help would be appreciated.

I always calibrate the source, with multiple sources then you can deal with each separately. Ultimately though I don't see any theoretical reason why one would be better than the other.

You must have source outputting correctly before moving on to display.

What are you getting at Gordon? If you calibrate the source what's left to do with the display?

With some sources there is not much you can do, with others there's alot. You must make sure that the output characteristics of the sources are correct before trying to make adjusments in the display.
If you adjust a DVD player so that it's output isn't crushing black or white detail do you think that means the display is correct?.....possibly...possibly not.
Adjust the colour output/sharpness in our DVD player so it's component output looks nice do you think that means that other sources sharing the component input of the display will also be correct?.....possibly....possibly not.
The adjusments I make in the display are not fixeable in sources. If there is a scaler in the middle then you need to have it done properly as well before you work on the display......it's a tricky business.

Okay, I see what you're saying .. but then that must lead to a frenetic round of
fix one source
fix the next
have to fiddle with the display which means going back to the first source
then the next
etc.
