Just saw a Blu-Ray disk played on a 50" Sony Plasma and trust me this is the best possible PQ ever. It was unreal. Me and a few other people just stood in front of the screen and couldnt believe our eyes. Simply stunning. The contrast and definition were out of this world. I stood 30cm away from the 50" screen and could see the tiniest details perfectly. :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :thumbsup: :clap:
Any chance of expanding on that? i.e. what was the source material, (film or whatever), what res 1080p, 720p? :)

i was at a sony trade show a while back and they were playing a blu-ray demo disc of movie trailers (bad boys 2, charlies angels) along with some "real life" footage, all shot in HD, thru a sony 50" plasma.
blew my frickin mind. :thumbsup:
was better than looking through a window, absolutely stunning.
the player was connected via component, and the resident geek informed me that that the video was 1080p.
20k for the screen, 5k-ish for the player. bargain.

it was a sony demo disc shot somewhere in Japan. Not sure how the blu-ray recorder was hooked up to the plasma but I presume component cause that plasma does not feature hdmi. The plasma was 50MRX1. The recorder was the boxy sony item, think its the only1 they make for now. never have I imagined that such clarity would be attainable any time in the next 100 years or so. If this thing becomes popular it would definitely be a better solution than the london congestion charge cause people simply would not leave the house
trust me this is the best possible PQ ever.
I remember people saying the same thing about SVHS, Laser Disk and more recently DVD when they first came out.

I'm pretty sure that even something better than HDTV will appear in our lifetimes.

I've seen it for myself, at the past two AV shows in Manchester.
The HDTV demo was awesome. The source was DVHS (I think?).
And very impressive it is too. I hope it catches on over here

I'm pretty sure that even something better than HDTV will appear in our lifetimes.
The Ultra definition TV standard is development as we speak, apparently its too good, some test subjects suffer from motion sickness when watching fast moving scenes. The story was on slashdot.org ages ago.
Isn't UHDTV being developed for public broadcasting though? Still, I suppose it will probably filter down to consumer levels.

It will be interesting to see what price the first Blu-Ray players will be released at come 2006/7. I personally won't be interested until I can get one for £500 or less. So probably 2010. :laugh:

I didn't think Sony made a plasma/lcd screen capable of 1080p yet. If the screen in question was the 50"MRX1 then it probably would have been 1080i as the screen res is 1365 by 768. Not 1920 by 1080 needed for 1080p. Unless it was scaled to fit. Does anyone know!?

the PS3 is suposed to be Blu Ray, so that should launch sub £300 hopefully, but there is no talk of it playing movies. but i'm the same as you i'll wait untill they are below £500

The screen at Manchester was 1024x1024 resolution fed with 1080i from the player, so it was downscaling - picture still looked very nice!
