Mornin' all

(moderators – if this is the wrong forum please bump this to the correct one)

Is there any decent place to check the differences between versions of films?

I was price checking Shrek 2 today and noted that WHSmiths have 3 versions listed:

Standard - 1 disk
Waxed Ears Special Edition – doesnt specify numb of disks
Voice Chipped – 2 Disk

Unfortunately they don’t have a synopsis of the disks and I cannot find anywhere (including dreamwork’s website) which can give a breakdown to cross compare.

Any suggestions of where to get this info – and if anyone can confirm the differences it would be appreciated.

Cheers

Thinks this is better off in the DVD section.

There is a difference between the two as R1 contains the original actor’s voices but on the R2 some of the characters have been changes one is Jonathan Ross.

The Region 2 release also has a Neckchop instead of the original Headbutt so if you want the original unaltered version go for the Region 3 Edition from CDWow, only Ł12.24 using the Forum link

I have noticed that many of CD-Wow's products are Region 3. Are there any pro's / con's to this region ?

i've had no problem with R3's. i know people who have had problems but they have bought them from some dodgy people. i've bought all mine from CDWOW and never had a problem.

Ok, so went to the shops to have a look at the 3 versions - it appears the main difference is the 'waxy ears' and the 'voice clip' both come with a 2nd disc and novelty packaging - nothing on the boxes though to say what is on the 2nd discs nor if the contents of the 2 versions are the same.

Went for the waxy ears as the kids will love the gross factor of the packaging

I got my Region 3 copy of Shrek 2 today and it looks good, its defently the unaltered version of the film and it is a 2 Disc Edition but I did notice a mistake on the packaging.

On the back it lists the extras for the first disc but after that it says "Shrek 3D Bonus Disc". At first I thought the R3 release might not contain the same second disc as the UK release and that it came with the Shrek 3D disc instead but after trying it out it is defently the bonus Shrek 2 disc so why Shrek 3D is listed on the back I have no idea.

Also, the printing on the discs isnt that great and looks similar to the quality of printing on a few DVD9 bootlegs I have had in the past but I am sure it is legit.

Hi,

I too want to know about the Shrek 3d disc listed on the back, any news on this?, and yes the printing is 2nd rate, probably cheap due to the r3 market.

I have emailed CDWow and they said they will look into it but havent had anyone else mention a printing mistake.

Also, have you taken the cover out of the case? as it feels like it was printed on standard photographic paper, defently one of the worst official DVDs I have ever had, shame too as it wasent that cheap, the R3 release of The Day After Tomorrow was alot better quality and it cost less, the world works in strange ways lol

I've only watched the USA version of the film. With regard to changing the actors for the UK release: was it just the voices that were changed, or also the computer models of the characters altered to match the new actors?

Thanks.

No... Joan Rivers character has had a voice-over by Kate Thornton, Jonathon Ross replaces the voice of Larry King as one of the ugly sisters.

Does the R3 have the complete set of extras that you'l find in the other countries' releases? eg this page in DVD Compare (http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film.php?fid=6246) reccommends the R4 2-disk and r2 German to have ALL the extras, but the R3 isn't mentioned on this page, maybe because the R3 version wasn't avaiable for review at the time.

Thanks.

Yep it has all the same Extras as the UK R2, German R2 and Australian R4 release.
