I am going to get Grosse Pointe Blank, can anyone recommend the best to get?
ie R1 or R2
Any help will be appreciated!
I don't think there's any difference.
Both had quite good reviews. Identical discs.
The thing that may make you mind up is price.

If I was buying it now I go for the Region 2 as the discs are just the same.

I doubt that its 4 minutes extra footage, it's probably just the speed difference between NTSC and PAL.
According to Rewind, the R2 version is anamorphic though you do miss out on the trailer that is on the R1 disk. It also quotes both as having Dolby Digital 5.1 sound.
Top film, BTW.

The region1 I have is not the most fantastic disc picturewise although I'm informed the film was shot on a shoestring with some fairly inexperienced crew. (seems a little underexposed in some scenes your left really peering at the detail).
The sound is on the whole OK apart from one scene in a car where there is audible distortion. Again I suspect thats down to the original sound recording. I think it might be in "Ultra" stereo (prologic basically) rather than 5.1. Could be wrong 2.5 years since I've watched this.
If memory serves me correctly its got a rather odd aspect ratio (it might be 1.66 but I forget). Whether its supposed to be this way or not I'm unsure. Its not anamorphic either.
Fun film though.

How does the NTSC ==>> PAL thing make it longer?
Films we see at the cinema run at 24 frames per second. PAL videos/DVDs/LDs 'run' at 25 fields per second (50 half fields). Rather than repeat 1 of the 24 film frames per second, a film will be transferred at 1 frame per field, meaning it runs 4% fast: 2min 24sec shorter for every hour of film.
NTSC runs at 30 fields (60 half fields) per second. In order to transfer 24 frames per second into 30 fields per second, a technique known as '2-3 pulldown' is used. See HERE (http://www.cs.tut.fi/~leopold/Ld/FilmToVideo/#SpeedsNTSC) for a good explanation of this.

This is one film that I enjoyed so much that I am very happy with the LD version. I would buy the DVD, but I can't. I'm so attached to the sleeve, artwork and handability of the disc etc I just can't change. Top film I think, one in a million.
Whichever version you get, you can't be disappointed, it's not possible. Enjoy.
