What films since the dawining of DVD which were hailed as classics could some newer adopters be missing out on ?
RONIN is a definate having as it does a nice picture and great 5.1 surround
as to are ( IMHO )

AUSTIN POWERS
BUGS LIFE COLLECTORS EDITION
SHAKESPEAR IN LOVE

I'd add 12 Monkeys to you list as I think it's one of the most over looked movies in the 90's.
Perhaps the Matrix ? :)
Not everyone's cup of tea but the sound is pretty damn good and the picture quality aint bad either (but could be bettered). Oh and the film itself isn't too bad as well :D
I own all the DVDs you guys mentioned as well :) and completely agree about 12 Monkeys.

I think the MATRIX is a definate DVD must have and for me marks the point that both R1 and R2 seemed to really take off in terms of mainstream popularity.
Two other classics for me have to be STARSHIP TROOPERS which really has a great loud soundtrack and ROBOCOP CRITERION which I was luck enough to get for around £17 some time back and besides nt have 5.1 it has a great picture and great sound

Hi,
For me, one of the best DVD's, and possibly a forgotten classic, has to be the Columbia Tri-Star R2 edition of "El Mariachi/Desperado" on 1 double-sided DVD!
Both are excellent movies, and had tons of extras!

Definately agree with the above, The Matrix was the first film I actually bought.
I would have to add Saving Private Ryan to the list as well, as its worth £20.00 just for the first 20 minutes, especially in DTS.

Back in 1997 Contact was the disc to own - 3 commentaries, loads of other extras and a great pic and sound.
T2 was also one of the very first RSDL releases.
I rewatched Airforce One over the weekend. This was perhaps the first "DVD has gone mainstream" title on its release in Feb 98. Everyone in the DVD community seemed to be buying it.
A good example of what Sony could do with a single layer disc.

DAS BOOT is a definate classic, the sound steering and bass level drops on some more popular releases from a great height

Some of my early "classics" (for me anyway :) ) were :-

Stargate Sp.Ed R.1
Antz R.1
American History X R.1
Alien R.2
Aliens R.2
Crimson Tide R.2
To me all are good films with good transfers and most have amazing sound, several of the titles are also helped on the extra's side of things...

Definitely The Matrix but i'd like to throw Pitch Black into the pot.
Atmospheric film, good soundtrack and a lovely sound to it.
