What are your favs.
The best one I can think of is Chapter 12 of the R1 version of The Rock. The shower scene, brilliant. Great demo scene to show off your system and also dramtically filmed. Actually most of The Rock.
For sound alone:
The Lobby: Matrix: ch29 R1
Engaging the Borg: Star Trek First Contact: ch4 R1
Heaven and Hell: South Park B.L.U.: ch8 R1
The Psychofrakulator: Mystery Men: ch16 R1
Go for Launch & The Lift Off: Apollo 13 dts: ch13(!) R1
Plus, most of Saving Private Ryan dts & ID4 (a bit obvious, but so what ?)

84Mins to 93mins ( about ) into BRINGING OUT THE DEAD. Not the best film but the soundtrack here really shines and its a lot better than Casualty. Quite funny in a sick way.

Hey DuncanWardle
The Rock is my fav action film. hAS THE best LINE.I only own it on LD. Best bit has to be the FACE OFF scenes between Ed Harris and CandyMan Tony Todd.
When Tony shouts;-
"I WHAT MY F***ING MONEY!"
And also "STAND DOWN CAPTAIN".
Sean Con. stole the show, sorry Nicholas

Sad as it may seem, but the BMW sequence in "Tomorrow Never Dies" either region 1 or 2, is outstanding, listen to the soundtrack itself for sheer delight..awesome
The "Here's my invitaion" scene from True Lies R1 (CH3 I think).
The opening battle scene in Private Ryan R1 (CH2 I think)
The awesome shootout at the bank robbery scen in Heat R2 has to be one of the best ever made.

Most of The Matrix, Saving Private Ryan and, I concur, the shootout in Heat, pretty 'bally' awesome!!!!!!!!!1
But also, some classic moments not to be forgotten, take your pick :-
The destruction of the rebels and the forest in Predator.
The bit with the vamps coming out of the ground in Vampires.
The face off between Drexel and Slater in True Romance, kicking soundtrack.
Aliens because I love plenty of gung ho slaughter.
The bit when the golf ball whizzes around the room in Lock, Stock..... (pretty good up loud).
And finally, any chilling music when little boys talk to dead people...........
Great.

Douch!!......Wot's da madder, da CIA got you pushing too many penzils?
As everyone else mentioned, The Matrix and Saving Private Ryan. Also -
1.Ed Norton's imaginary mid-air collision in Fight Club. Comes out of nowhere and my system just about explodes if it is cranked !! Short, but sweet.
2.The opening 'nightclub' scene in Blade.
3.Contact - the build up to, and the scene where Jodie's character goes through the wormhole.
4.The parting of the Red? sea in The Prince of Egypt.
cheers
gavin.
1 Fifth Element Opera scene the whole film is superb
2 Shoot-out in Heat
3 Leon Gary Oldman shouting EVERYONE
4 Das Boot bit on the sea floor
Hard Target
The bit where Pic shoots Randall, looks around then empties his shells - that rocks

I've just watched the DVD of ID4 and it sounds much better than the DTS LD. Must be a first.
Also any idea if the DTS True Lies is gonna get a DVD release as my LD got a little damaged http://www.homecinemachoice.com/ubb/frown.gif

Must be! Im pondering getting the DVD- is the picture as bad as some have suggested (I doubt it but I dont want to replace a LD that cost me £40 if it has probems).
No idea about a DTS True Lies- I suppose www.thedigitalbits.com (http://www.thedigitalbits.com) would be first to break news on that- I would say likely as most new amps have it built in, its just whether the average joe would support the format.
I think Digital Bits said that True Lies would NOT be among the first wave of FOX dts titles. X-Files (the movie) and Die Hard were mentioned along with a couple more.
The opening scene in 'Hard Boiled' - still the best choreographed piece of violence ever.
The opening scene in Blade - top use of music to accompany the action.
Starship Troopers - the ambush on the outpost (can't remember the name of the scene).
Not on DVD:
The Godfather, where Sonny Corleone (James Caan) is murdered - a scene that stays in the memory long after.
Any of the Star Wars Trilogy - the opening scene where the Imperial cruiser passes over the camera... surely a key cinema moment for anyone between the age of 25 and 50!

Thanks Pete- great I now have to re-buy all the Die Hard films!
James- As an owner of the LD Star Wars SE, I can assure you that yes that scene is absolutely wonderful- although they dont really use a slooow flyover effect (which is a shame)- which is why I chose the Death Star Battle. You are in for a treat when it comes out http://www.homecinemachoice.com/ubb/wink.gif

the picture on the DVD is not bad at all. In someplaces it goes a little LD like but it is very good quality in every way.
I know how u feel about re-buying, when T2 comes out at end of august it will be the 2nd time i have it on DVD 3rd on LD and 3rd or 4th on video.
Anyway for about £18 ID4 is worth it for the extended cut and also the 2nd disc is very interesting. The mock documentry thing is quite funny.
I cant b arsed to re-buy the Die hards in DTS unless they do have some kind of extended cut of the, although the anex skywalk shoot out scene is a very good section and nice and violent.

I know what you mean, I'd love to re-buy half my LD collection on DVD. One step at a time though. And I promised my wife I'd only buy new releases on DVD, but with T2 coming, how could I not? Braveheart looks good too. And so does Strship Toopers, Leon, Predator...........................

Douch!!......Wot's da madder, da CIA got you pushing too many penzils?
A couple that spring to mind
1) The scene in "Aliens" when the Marines and Ripley had sealed themselves in a lab and were watching the Alens on the sensor converge on their position... - One of those great suspense moments when I didn't cover my eyes http://www.homecinemachoice.com/ubb/redface.gif
2) The huge battle scene in "Platoon" at the end when the VC overan the camp. - Gotta get that out on DVD
Cheers

Rob T - Platoon is out on R1 very soon. Got it on order as I love the film and am sure that some parts were edited for my own good, ie, the dialogue about Barnes and his history of not being 'killable' by the gook.
Also, let's all get Duncan a flaming icon, I've had one and it's cool.

ID4 sounds good- may wait, as they are sure to bring out a DTS one- so thatll be 5th time for you!
Not the most obvious but here goes:
Most of Fight Club.
The tomb sequences in The Mummy (there's something about the bass when they throw those torches around.
My demo sequence is the helicopter scene from The Matrix.
General,
Yup I just seen the preorder in Play247 - no mention of any extras, DTS, etc. though.
Other gripping scene:
The Abyss: When Ed Harris had to watch ME Mastrantonio drown in the minisub - jeeze...
Cheers

Im glad some1 mentioned Hard Taget. As a no brainer action movie this is great.
I think my fav is either the bit when he gets hold of the motorbike after his cop friend is killed or the end bit when they are back to back with the wall between them.
Classic Woo
Im trying to remeber other things that I like.
Bad Boys is just such a great film with the scene were will smith runs after the bad blokes with his shirt flying and the wheelchair guys playing basket ball, being one of the most memorable.
Did I mention The Rock, oh how I love this film.
Eraser and the rail gun or the sky dive from the plane.
Goldeneye and the car chase at beginning.
End of Armageddon ( ahhhhhhh )
At the moment though, and seeing as how most of you must have PCs, i have been spending majority of my time playing a game called Deus Ex. I urge you to rush to the shop now and buy it. It is the most cleverest and involving thing I have ever seen. Pure class.
Oh and whats the flaming thing ?

I know it,s a bit outdated now but multiple scenes and sounds from 2001: A Space Odessey.
Take your pick.
and
The entire Bladerunner movie.... especially Rutger Hauer's wolf howl as he 'hunts' Decker
[This message has been edited by Pedrigo (edited 09-08-2000).]
One scene That I have always loved is from John Carpenter's The Thing.
It's the "hands in the chest" scene..great bit of shock horror.
I also liked the 'spider head' sequence too .
As far as other movies are concerned then I agree with a lot of the above.
The opening night club sequence in Blade. The Car Chase in The Rock. The whole of the sequence in Armageddon from the shuttle take off to the 'landing' on the asteroid.
The intro to Bad Boys still makes me chuckle.
The dogfights in ID4 are good too.
All the usuals really!!

The Matrix
Roof top bullit time - helicopter rescue - helicopter crash, just awesome.
Lee
Just been watching another LD that is a real lousy movie but I cant help but love it just for the fun factor. Lost in Space!
The whole sequence where they find the Proteus and go on board, then get attacked by the spiders, thne leave and crash on the planet....fantastic demo sequence!!
The intro to the movie is also great for showing off.....actually the whole movie is one long demo!!

True Romance.
The Hopper / Walken scene
nuff said.
Okay, here goes!
1. Take off in Apollo 13 Ch.12-13
2. Opening titles in Armageddon, the Manhattan meteor shower, and the crashing of the Independance shuttle Ch.1,3 and 19-20 respectively(on the Criterion disc)
3. The Brain Ride and mid-air collision on Fight Club Ch.1 and ? respectively
4. The shoot out on Heat Ch.30-32
5. The deposition scene in The Insider Ch.19
6. The shower room shoot out in The Rock Ch.12 on the R1
7. Three Kings where they are driving in to the Iraqie village for the first time with the Beach Boys playing. Turely ironic and quite likely, very accurate! Also the cow explosion, and the incredibly tense shoot out in the village. Ch.7,6 and 11 respectively.
8. The Mop Up scene from The Thin Red Line Ch.19. Seriously intense film making!
9. The shoot out in the injection room on M:I2. Unfortunately not on DVD yet!
10. Almost all of Gladiator!
These are all based on the actual film making and not how they sound or look on DVD. But I must admit, they all sound and look pretty darn good anyway. The ones that are on disc of course.

A scene from The Accused (sadly not on DVD http://www.homecinemachoice.com/ubb/frown.gif ) where Jodie Foster storms into her lawyer's dinner party and makes her "pants down" speech. Gives me goose bumps every time!
Very subjective one this, but the 'Wake Angels' sequence in Titan AE is IMHO fantastic. Great music, visuals and sound....finally bought a sub on saturday and I used this sequence last night to demo to a friend and he was suitably impressed.

Jason, yeah I use Titan A.E to demo my gear all the time. http://www.homecinemachoice.com/ubb/wink.gif The Wake Angels sequence is really spectacular, it changed my mates preconcieved opinion of that film anyway. IMO though the Ice Ring sequence is even better, the visuals are amazing and the level of bass is UNREAL, the low frequencies were rattling the door handle behind me. Sweet.

How about these :
Witness - When Harrison Ford notices the boy looking at the killers photo in the display cabinet.
Uncle Buck - Telling the Headmistress where to get off + the clown punch
All of Trains, Planes and Automobiles
Cool Hand Luke - Paul Newman stealing the truck in his last escape
Reservoir Dogs - Opening walk sequence

If you want the best shoot out, theres only one.The Wild Bunch - Final scene.
Absolutly amazing film, i advise you see it.
I also like the T-rex scene from Jurrassic Park just because it makes my woofer go through the floor http://www.homecinemachoice.com/ubb/wink.gif
Tee.
I only bought my first sub on Saturday and I am just starting to get used to rattles..he he.
Used the Platinum DVD to set up my system and the rattle test was great fun.....up to now I have to find some way of deadening the living room door, the fireplace surround and the computer desk shelf that the keyboard is on..lol
Havn't listened to the Ice rings sequence in Titan AE yet (went silly over the weekend as the neighbors were away, and listened to loads of little bits of movies to see how they sounded with the sub)...I will have a listen tonight and then post what I think.

Okay guys - some good film moments. Here are some of mine (in no particular order) -
Apocolypse Now - Helicopter Assault whilst playing Wagner
ID4 - Destruction of the White House
Excalibur - Knights riding through the forrest with Carmina Burana playing in the background
Jurassic Park - Impact tremors from the T-Rex
Die Hard - Various
Enter the Dragon - Fight in the caverns
Star Wars TPM - Lighstabre battle
Sixth Sense - When it clicks (the plot that is!)
Sorry about the late post on this one....I did watch the Ice sequence from Titan AE that night.....but ended up watching the whole movie again and forgot to post my views on this part of the movie....oooppps!
Anyway, I have to agree, it is def one of the BEST demo sequences I have on DVD....the sheer power of those huge peices of ice feels almost real...even in our living room!!
Have to say it again, if you like no-brainer movies and are a fan of more mature animation (allthough we are not talking anime here so be warned....but it is more adult than Disney ever does), and you want a great looking and AWSOME sounding DVD....then this is the one!

The bunny boiler was Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction and the woman crossing her legs is Sharon Stone in Basic Instinct.
