"The Conversation" starring Gene Hackman - early 70s paranoia thriller from Coppola.
"No Way Out" starring Kevin Costner - no, wait, come back! It's good. It also has Gene Hackman in it. I think there's a pattern emerging here...
Just thought of another great film - "Thirteen Days" about the Cuban missile crisis. Oh, that also stars Costner...
James Bond movies
Sneakers :smashin:
The Rock
Air Force One
xXx
Arlington Road
What about cop/crime films?
Silence of the Lambs
Red Dragon
Heat
Sea of Love
Leon
Panic Room
The Fugitive
Oceans Eleven
The Usual Suspects
Jackie Brown
Reservoir Dogs
...probably getting a bit off topic now...

Le Carries "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier" and "Spy & Smiley's People" are two of the best spy adaptations there are. Not to hot on action, but far far closer than just about any other film to the truth.
The quality of the script, direction, and acting is extremly high, Alec Guinness was born for this role.
edit: gah, how could I forget the Tailor of Panama (tis a little bit of a pee take compared to the book) & the Perfect Spy? all very good to excellent Le Carrie adaptations.

Sorry if this is stating the obvious, but recomend you don't make the same mistake as I did and get the R2 version :suicide: it's been cut to ribbons to get a 15 certificate.
I've seen the R1 on DVDsoon for about a fiver!

I am a big fan of spy thrillers. No modern films match the older movies.
I think Michael Cain helped kill off the genre with a patch of bad ones in the 80's.
The Jigsaw Man
The Fourth Protocol
Whistle Blower
You need to look for the older movies, each of the top movie stars tried a spy movie at least once.
For spy and betrayal films, my favourites are:
The Ipcress File - Michael Caine, spawned several sequels
Quiller Memorandum - George Seagal
3 Days of the Condor - Robert Redford
5 Fingers - James Mason
The Third Man - Orson Welles
Stalag 17 - William Holden
The Manchurian Candidate - Frank Sinatra
Seven Days in May - Burt Lancaster
The Osterman Weekend - Rutger Hauer
Hotel Reserve - James Mason
The first 6 being especially good.
Hope these help.

Jst saw the Italian Job (2003), I like it even better now - nice all rounded heist/spy film :smashin: Also don't forget U-571, more WW2 than spy but worth getting regardless.
Edge of Darkness (BBC drama)
Winter Kills
The Parallax View

The Bourne Identity
The following conspiracy movies I remember liking a lot at the time but have only seen them once:
Shadow conspiracy ( possibly Charlie Sheen?)
Murder at 1600 (Wesley Snipes)
Conspiracy theory (Mel Gibson)
Another excellent TV series which nobody seems to have mentioned is the X-Files. This is largely a conspiracy based series but also delves into the paranormal. The X-Files movie fight the Future was also heavily conspiracy based!
