Hi, I was wondering if you guys could help me out, I would like to start ordering films from playusa.com would I incur any taxes or duty? I'm a bit confused as to where they are based? any help would be much appreciated. Has anyone incurred duty with playusa.com? Cheers
They are outside the EU for tax purposes. Anything with a value over GBP18 is liable for tax & duty.

So what your saying is that I should order one at a time below the value of 18 pounds and I should be ok?
Play USA don't sent multiple items in one package.
Even if you ordered five items at once they would all be sent out as separate packages each with their own price marked, so it is not a problem as long as none of the individual items is over £18

how much was it? and how come?
think the customs charge depends on teh value of the package(I think) I bought Nightmare on Elm street boxset which was £50 and got hit with a £13 customs charge

it came 2 about a tenner
A quick point too.
Whilst the £18 limit is WITHOUT the shipping charge, if the iitem goes above the £18 the customs fees are figured on the overall total including the shipping fee.
So if a DVD is £25 and shipping is say £5 then you would be liable for customs on £30.
Currently the import duty on DVDs is around 4% then VAT at 17.5% plus the usual clearance fee - £4 for Royal Mail and £8 for Parcel Force.

Shipping is free on Play USA, so shouldn't be an issue.

No, that isn't it.
If the value of the goods is below GBP18 then taxes aren't collected.
If the value of the goods is over GBP18 then taxres are due on the cost of goods + shipping (if any).

Just dont order anything over £18 from PlayUSA and you will be fine, if you want to order something over £18 then try CDWow, with them you dont have to worry about fees.

I have had items from PLAY USA at just £22.99 and had to pay another £8 in charges.Avoid them on items over £18

I think you'll find it was HM Customs and the Royal Mail who shafted you!
