Toshiba and Canon have teamed up and made this new type of display called:
Surface Conduction Electron Emmiter Display (or SED for short)
Apparently it has all the benefits of both Plasma and LCD without any of their bad points such as:
LCDs bad viewing angles, bad response time and Plasmas burning issues and high power consumption.
Toshiba said that these new displays will become their flagship TV product which means they will stop all other pLasma and LCD production in an atempt to gain a footing in this flat panel market!

I still dont know about the life expectency of this new type of panel, but i think this will be an issue, since it is the short life span of OLED technology that is holding it back.
