Hi,

can anyone recommend a good DVD disc cleaner? My Panny HS2 seems to be rejecting more discs than normal just lately and was hoping that a clean would be worth doing before looking at replacement parts :god:

if its really bad and something like the allsop doesn't sort it (I've got one too, good enough for me :smashin: ) you may need to pop the bonnet and physically clean the lens yourself. I tend to do this myself as it takes 5 minutes and isn't worth the £30 I was offered by a dealer to do it, but I've only had to do that on my first player anyway, which is about 7 years old now. I'd go with the allsop first though as it usually does the trick no worries

The BIB radial cleaners are what I use - one spray per disc and they are great... If the disc is scratched BIB also do CD restorer polish which works very well on DVDs - What Hi-Fi even praised it...

I can only find one place online which sells the products though... link below...
Woolworths do stock some of their range so it may be worth a look in there

How does CD restorer polish work? I've got a copy of the Bourne Identity with the most innocous looking scratch, but my DVD player pauses on it. Would a restorer work?

Im not quite sure - I would think it fills the scratch so that the laser doesn't refract in the wrong direction? Im sure someone will now...

The polish doesn't work on seriously big scratches though... If you've got a big scratch there are some shops that can fix these for a couple of quid... Usually the more discs you get done at a time the cheaper, per disc, it is... The disc does come back basically brand new though.

If you just want to clean your discs.. I use baby wet wipes followed by one of those microcloths (like the oakley sunglasses bag material) to wipe clean... works a treat.. discs come out spotless..
