Babylon 5

Does anyone know if there is a definite release date for Babylon 5 on DVD?

Hi there! As yet, Warners has NOT issued any official or definite release dates about any DVD releases of B5, on this side of the Atlantic, nor on R1.

However, hopefully there should be at least one DVD out (probably R1 only) by the end of 2001. This should contain the B5 Pilot Movie "The Gathering", although it will more than likely be the originally aired version, and not the longer, director-approved cut that recently aired on the Sci-Fi Channel in the USA.

Hopefully, if Warners don't balls things up, they will issue both versions on the same disc, and make the prints Widescreen 16:9 compatible. Bue this remains to be seen, and Warners aren't exactly the world's most popular DVD firm. I also pray that J. Michael Strazynski makes certain that plenty of extras are included, on all releases, and that Warners do NOT use those shoddy, cheap-at-twice-the-price cardboard cases!

Also, I hope that they do the discs in a Season-By-Season release, just as 20th Century Fox have done with "The X-Files".

The DVD releases of "The Gathering" and "In the Beginning" will be delayed until around August in<br /> order to use the updated version of "The Gathering" rather than the original version, according to JMS.

Located this on the Digital Bits site:

"The first Babylon 5 DVD release is expected on December 4th (SRP $19.98). It will be a double feature disc, and will include the complete TV movies In the Beginning and The Gathering. The latter will reportedly be a special edition version that was shown on TNT (a different edit than the original, with new music). More B5 product will follow on DVD in 2002."

<br />The different edit is most likely the longer European version (which is JMS prefered version).

The dvds have taken so long to be released because Warner originally mastered the shorter US edit of The Gathering. JMS noticed what Warner had done and Warner agreed to scrap that version and use the extended European edit instead (at great cost to themselves)
