Hi,

Criterion is a US DVD company, who release a limited number of DVD's each year, but try and release the best possible editions possible!

This may include digitally remastering for sound and/or picture quality. Adding an audio commentary by the director, or a famous film advisor. PLus, including an interesting and eclectic range of extras.

However, because of their collectability, their releases tend to sell out very quickly, and then the prices shoot-up. Most of their discs retail at $24-95 or thereabouts.

The same information, applies to Anchor Bay, another US DVD company. The only difference, is that where Criterion release cinematically historical and noteworthy films like "The LAst Temnptation Of Christ" or "The 400 Blows", et al, Anchor Bay do a lot of banned horror movies, as well as dramas, comedy, TV series', boxed sets, etc.

Criterion started out with LDs back in the 80's. I have about 30 of their superb LDs. The DVD collection is nearing 10, I think. They also release some stuff under the Voyager label. Best wishes!

Don;t mean to put a spanner in your works, but the Criterion Collection is now over 100 titles, not 10.

However, if it was simply a case of missing an extra "0" from your response, then I apologise.

Indeed, I meant I have about ten of their titles on DVD. My latest DVD aqquesition was THE BLOB with Steve Mcqueen, which dsproves the theory that they only release high-brow films. They do produce some stuff as money makers to suppourt their more obscure films. I stille buy their LDs too. I bought the LD of A NIGHT TO REMEMBER on E-bay as of late. If money was no object, I'd like to own about half the Criterion Collection stuff ever released, both formats. I'm working on it... Best wishes from Laserland!

From the way it's written I think Rachael means that she owns 10 (out of the 120+ available).

Criterion still have some way to go before they exceed their Laserdisc output though, at almost 400 titles.

I can't believe you are still buying LD's. Is this because some of the titles are not yet available on DVD, or what?

Yes, the Criterion Collection do release some low-brow material as well, but almost all of their stuff is historically significant in some way, or cinematically significant, at least. I mean, even titles like "The Blob" or "Plan 9 From Outer Space" (which isn't a Criterion release, by the way folks) have some important and cash-worthy collection factors. Note very film, has to be of a classic nature, like "Gone With The Wind" or "Citizen Kane".
