lol, know what you mean, nice to see they can still deliver even to a stone island. I enjoyed the movie though

I doubt FedEx got it cheap, it must have cost them a fortune! There are many films like this nowadays, most of the time we don't notice, so it makes me wonder if it is worth placing products in the first place. When I think back to Cast Away, I think of the story and I had forgotten about FedEx until you mentioned it. Still, I prefer to see a real company rather than soemthing made up such as 'AJAX' Express!

Don't forget Wilson Sporting Goods part in this feature length ad. Product placement is one thing, this film is another! I thought the love story part was poor. The ending was anti-climatic and one last plug for Fedex's reliability. As much as I like Tom Hanks, I found CAST AWAY a real bore. Best wishes!

Must have been expensive because they crashed one of their planes for the film .... :D

Nope what normally happens is if a specific real company is integral to the plot of a film and said company is happy with its depiction the understanding is that the company will allow the production to make use of certain of its facilities :ie the planes the depots the actual transportation requirements of the production etc.
Monetary deals for individual specific product placements do still happen but are normally more blatent and simplistic than the probable relationship between Fedex and the Castaway production.
I did enjoy the film incidentally.

I heard that they (Zemeckis, Hanks) felt a real courier company was needed to make the film seem more realistic. They originally approached UPS but they said no, so FedEx were asked next and they said OK !
I enjoyed the film too (soundtrack is awesome), and reckon it's easier to understand the obsession with time and making a delivery because it's FedEx - if it were fictitious they would probably have had to push the point a little more.
Cast Away is a great advert for R1 too, we've had the disc months and it's still on rental on R2 !!
