And other noises in the background on my computer.
It is 3 months old, 3gHz and I have noticed a progressive up in volume of this lately.
I have just done a search and I couldn't find any similar problems.
Is there a simple desktop solution for this or do I need to take the computer apart?
I don't know the motherboard to hand and I have a tv capture card which 'leeks' sound from startup? I have to open and close the software and then it goes.
Any help would be good evey move of the mouse makes a whining noise and drives me nuts at the moment

I have a shuttle btw
Matt
sounds like some interference from a faulty device.

before you pop the lid off i'd try upgrading your soundcard drivers first, if that doesn't make a difference i'd try removing that TV capture card and see if that changes anything..
looks like a faulty device as MJN says, but i've seen dodgy drivers cause similar probs before.. Even dodgy BIOS version can't be ruled out..

I remember having this problem - the problem is I can't remember how I stopped it. I know I didn't replace any hardware though so I'll have a think and post back if I remember. I have a logitech cordless mouse and an Audigy 2 sound card. I got noise through the speakers when I used the scroll wheel.

:hiya: Thanks for your suggestions guys, I will have a look at the drivers first then check out the TV card.
I can also hear the dvd drives too! Steady increasing whine as I burn one!?
I'm assuming you mean that you can hear the mouse through the speakers ? That is the kind of thing that was happening to me.
I get a feeling that it was related to the CD Audio volume control - if I muted the CD Audio it got rid of the noise of the scroll wheel from the speakers. Eventually I disconnected the sound cable (not the IDE one!) that went from my DVD drive to the sound card and now I don't get the noise. I'mm 90% sure this is how I cured it.

JohnG,
Yes the noise is coming from the speakers!
Thanks for the suggestion. I'll try that, I know the cable you refer to and I do have it connected. I am sure its the one that permits you to hear a cd straight from the drive by pressing the play button on it, so not going through the sound card.
I'll let you know if it works!
