Best Place to Buy R1 DVDs
I'm looking for the R1 release of LOTR Two Towers Platinum Ed (4 Disc) which has the 'Gollum Award Speech' extra. DVDSoon has the title at 44.98 Canadian Dollar = 18.271 (GBP), which just falls above the Customs limit of £18. Ahhhhh!!
Any suggestions where to get this version? BTW, CD Wow do the R2 for £13.99, but this does not have the 'Gollum' extra

£29.99 + £1 s&h from www.dvdslimited.com
£26.99 inc s&h from www.discemporium.com
If you are in a hurry, then, provided they have stock (which isn't confirmed one way or the other on the website) then dvdslimited will be quicker as they are wholly UK based - so, next day, post office permitting.
discemporium hold their stock outside the UK, so it takes a bit longer, but it does come in taxes paid.

Wow, that was quick...thanks for the info, Nigel. I've had another look on the web and found DVDImport do the R1 for 29.64 USD (£16.15). I'm new to all this and can't quite see why there's such a big price difference. Having never ordered like this from abroad I'm also a little hesitant.... anyone had experience of buying from places like DVDImport?

It is one of the recommended R1 sellers, see the recommended dealers here.

Thanks for the link Garrett - I'd just used the price check feature from here to locate the best deals and noted the R1 recommended dealers I was hoping for feedback from others who had gone through this process before with any R1 DVD. Any pitfalls etc?

I've ordered 200+ DVDs from DVDSoon over the past 18 months, including several box sets exceding the £18 limit.
I have had no 'problems' with HMC&E with any shipment.
On average discs arrive with me within a week of shipping, most of the time 5 days after shipping.
They ship early when they have the stock available.
I have found their customer services department to be efficient.
Sometimes it can take then a while to receive 'catalogue' titles from their supplier.
Their prices, for pre-orders, go up and down quite often. One has to check back (I do so weekly) on occasion to monitor them. If one wants the goods at the lower price one has to cancel and then re-order.
On cancelation one is issued with 'store credit', not a refund.
As a Canadian vendor they stock 'dual language covers' when available.

No problems with the few orders I have placed with DVD Import, and yes, they are occasionally even cheaper than DVD Soon, but you may find delivery is slightly slower.
I have yet to have a problem with DVD Soon, which has not been quickly resolved. They are an excellent company to deal with, in my opinion.
As regards the customs limit, I believe that HMC&E are now checking packages more stringently, and DVD Soon do now have to declare the correct value on the packages, as do most US / Canadian retailers. I have yet to place an order which has topped the £18 limit, through DVD Soon, but the Star Wars Box Set is imminent, so I will be interested to see what happens, and overjoyed if it slips through!

You only add shipping at the point of them charging duty i.e. £17.99 DVD +£2P&P no duty. £18.01 DVD + £2 P&P duty due on £20.01.
