I have had the both the Re-44sz20rd (Problem with screen on delivery) and re-44sz21rd. I have found the set to be excellent, exceptionally clear and focused picture, good colour, sound and looks dam good too.

All in all I am very happy, after my initial puchase of the Tosh 42wh36 which was beset by convergence problems that 3 enginees could not fix.

What are the dimensions for this TV?
Also, will it sit on my large corner unit or is it a dedicated floorstander like most RPTV's?

Dimensions 79.5x106.8x34.0(H/W/D)cm
being that it is a DLP RPTV not a CRT RPTV it doesn't have the large cabinet so it's much shorter in height,so you can put it on your corner unit if it fits width wise.

At least you get rid of convergence and geometry problems with DLP.

Hi RE-44SZ21RD Owners

I just wanted to know if you owners have a problem with reflection as I found it quite distracting when viewing the screen at the stores?

Many thanks.

I researched this product and many other big screen TV's making comparisons with rear projections CRT and DLP, Plasma, LCD and Regular CRT widescreen TV's.

I ended up with a compromise. Screen Size - Overall Cabnet Size - Cost - Appearence - Picture Quality & setteled with the LG RE44sZ21RD.

I've had this unit at home for the last six weeks and have had doubts on occasion but now that I have relaxed, sat back and played some DVD's and watched TV, I'm really beginning to enjoy it.

It's prgressive scan both pure NTSC and pure PAL. The litriture supplied with it suggests that AV1 is RGB enabled (strange since DLP's don't technicaly have and RGB interface). With RGB on the the picuture is smoother and dmore 3 dimensional than when RGB output is switiched off.

When set up with quality materails such as AVIA the picture is sensational in component progressive scan mode. You need space between you and the display. 3 meters is about as close as you can get without suffering eye strane! I can read film credits from the garden 20 meters away. Not that I do that very often but it makes my point about the minimum distance needed.

TV (I use a digital Sky feed) pictures are only above average but acceptable. You really notice the signal and broadcast quality and it's something I wish Sky would address. Some programs can look very flaky but others - TV adverts and the latest US TV dramas such as CSI are very reasonable.

Sound is just average but listenable. The Virtual Dolby Digital gives a better performance if you had to use the on board sound.

What you don't hear in the shop is the bulb cooling fan and this is loud. Sounds like an old computer cooling fan but louder and perminetly on. I've got used to it now but if late night viewing is thing and you need the volume low then keep this in mind.

The remote control is simple to use. The auto set up is childs play. The TV will sit on a regular stand and thus you can fit your own centre speaker under it (CRT Rear Projectors normaly come with a fixed cabinet below the screen). However the shelf depth is limited so if you want to fit something on the shelf measure it carefully and allow for cabeling.

The display has a great black surrounding frame which I think looks great. Its big but dosn't dominate my room space (4x5m). It comes with a simple silver stand which places the display at the perfect height for my sofa. It has a very reasonable Wife Acceptancy Factor (WAF). Weighs less than my old 28" CRT.

Overall I'm very satified and this item can be found on the web today for under £1500. A bargin for the home cinima. Not a £4000 plasma or a £2500 LCD but a very reasonable alternative to a £900 32 inch CRT. Give it some thought, measure carefully and go for it if you like your movies.

Thanks for your comments Jonathan. Can I asumme that the reflective screen is not a problem when you are viewing the set?

Cheers

It's clear that this item performs best in a darkened room with lights or candles carefully positioned. My unit sits in front of a bay window and is watchable in full day light with no real problems. Horizontal viewing angles are good and wide :) The vertical viewing angle is limited but since I do all my viewing from sitting down its no problem. Who watches standing up anyhow?

I soon got used to any minor reflections and looked beyond them and have now started to really enjoy this item. When I want to watch something other than TV I close the blinds and the door behind me.

Just one thing. The format is not a true 16:9 image . . . yet. I'm waiting for the service engineer to give me a call with details on making this a true 16:9.

I tested it using Avia and the THX setup disks.

If you've not already found other links to the Avia disk you can find it here.

I notice that you say this set is Progressive scan both NTSC and PAL.

One of the deciding factors of me buying theis set will be that I can connect my US gamecube and chipped Xbox up to it using their Hi Def (component cables) packs and get a non-interlaced image.

However, the tech advisors at LG UK seem to be confused over whether the images will be in colour or not.

I'd really appreciate if anyone could confirm this for me.

Hello

I am in the same situation - also have a chipped XBOX. Therefore I would realy apreciate if someone could for sure tell that it works on the LG!

Thanks!

I got one of these tv's last week, had a nightmare setting up the picture to best suit me, great TV tho'

My question is about the NTSC support. I have a multi DVD player and a couple of R1 DVD's. When in NTSC mode I get slight discolouration on the lower half of the screen and a little flickering. Same thing happens in PAL60 mode for my Xbox & Gamecube.

I thought this set came with NTSC output as standard, has anybody else had a problem with 60HZ mode??
Or, better still, can anyone help with some advice?
:lease:
