Sorry for being so fundemental, but can anyone advise me of the best way to connect a DVD player to an amp.
I have a Toshiba SD2109 and intend to connect to a Denon AVC 1SE. I am confused regarding the best quality ie Svideo , Co axial etc. I would appreciate a straight forward explanation in decending order of merit. Thanks to all
Hi, Well I'd opt for running the video signal directly from the DVD via RGB scart to the TV and audio by composite or digital signal. Audiophiles prefer an analogue signal as it gives a certain warmth to the sound whereas digital signal is not as 'personal?'
The question you've raised will get many different responses so try a few audio and video cables from a decent a/v specialist or buy and try...see what YOU prefer. At the end of the day its what you think that counts. I've just upgraded to IXOS RGB scart (£34) for the picture and it's far far better than the standard video signal I was running. It was so good I bought the same to run my SKY digibox. My DVD sends a digital signal to the amp via a standard toslink cable. I haven't sat down and tried a composite cable for audio though.
Hope this helps a little

If running video via. your amp use the folowing:
If your DVD player has Y-U-V component video outs and your TV/monitor has corresponding inputs, (which is unlikely) run this via. the amp, with a co-axial digital audio cable, and if no component video, use an s-video lead to the amp; then to the TV.
Video straight to TV:
Use an RGB ONLY scart,(assuming your DVD mas an RGB compatible scart) made by IXOS and QED (SQUART), and a co-axial digital lead to the amp.
This should ensure the best picture and sound quality possible. Personally I would buy a new DVD player to match the great amp.

The 35 pound scart leads are only marginly superior to there 10 poor relations, they also come loose as they weigh slightly less then a Bull elephant.
Get one for about 20 quid and the difference is unnoticeable
I have a US 2109 chipped to play R2 discs, so I don't have any scart sockets.
I connect mine by co-ax to my amp (for the sound) and s-video to my tv (for the video).
S-video only sends the picture.
Co-ax only sends the sound.
I've tested various cables and couldn't really tell the difference.

I go with monkfish. But, ". I haven't sat down and tried a composite cable for audio though" I think this is a typo. He meant Coax.
