I won't have chance to audition.
Which is best - Ecosse CS 2.3 (What HiFi winner 2000) or QED silver anniversary (What HiFi winner 1999)?

Both! There is a gnat's d*** between them. Ecosse stuff is just harder to come by therefore carries a slight "exclusive" tag with it. You won't be disappointed with either.
