I am having a right old nightmare buying this online!
From the first supplier I had to return it twice because the internal green plastic 'pages' were cracked or even shattered. I then cut my losses and went to a different supplier.
The next one had a crack on the last 'page' and I noticed some imperfections on the surface of disc 1 which did ressult in frames being dropped when played. I returned this & have got my 4th. Packaging is now OK but I noticed sccratches on the surface of 2 discs which does again result in frames being dropped.
Fair play to the suppliers, they have replaced & reimbursed p&p promptly & no fuss. Problem is I will now be on my 5th attempt!!
Am I just being very unlucky here, or has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Bought mine the other week from WHSmith online, had it deleivered to my local branch for a shade over £40. No problems whatsoever, it was even delivered to the store in bubblewrpa which I didn't expect, guess your just unlucky:( .
Or it could be that the Royal mail are :censored: .

You might prefer the region one version which comes in a long gatefold cardboard package...
I bought the region 2 version from Amazon.co.uk it came in perfect condition:cool:

£35 from HMV- its currently listed on their website for £49.99- & I haven't seen it anywhere that cheap. Best at the moment seems to be around £45 ?

God, I can't believe how horrible that R1 looks. I hate double discs in a digipack, never mind 9 DISCS!!! :suicide:
I think MVC have it for £35, or are going to have it at this price. I have the R2 and it is in perfect condition.

How about "buy one get one free" on the Alien films and in amaray cases?
Minus the 9th disc though.

Not a flattering photo I suppose, bit it is vastly superior to the region two imho :smashin: :hiya:

I'm not so sure about the my latest delivery now. I played the (apparantly) perfect 1st disc & it also dropped frames- which got me thinking could this be my cheap DVD player at fault?
So I played the discs at my parents today- including the disc with scuffs on it & they seemed fine.
It appears that the DVDs may be OK, but surely brand new discs should be without any marks on them at all.
Are bottom end DVD players prone to dropping frames- it hasn't happened with any of my other DVDs?
Is it acceptable / normal for some brand new discs to have some marks on them? I've never noticed it before?
Darth_Fisto- currently with MVC for over £60.

You might be suffering from the seamless playback problem. Both R1 and R2 versions suffer from stuttering and audio lip sync. These happens where the seamless branching occurs as there are two versions of the film on each disc.

Interesting... My Region 1 Quadrilogy set, which I got on Wednesday gone, comes in the same packaging as the R2 version Lex posted above. Got mine no probs from MovieTyme and in perfect condition.

Serves me right for "Posting Under the Influence". Should be an offence or something.
Did you feel good using the new smilies, by the way? ;)

Thanks nwgarratt, that sounds like my problem. It seems that a DVD player upgrade might not even solve it!
Even so, surely brand new discs should be absolutely mark free- or am I just being unrealistic?

A couple of years ago I would say yes.
Now nearly all my DVD's come with marks and scratches. More from R2 than R1. My star Trek TV series ones were even cracked, due to poor packaging.
It seems the quality control has gone down rapidly as the quantity produced has gone up.

Maybe the artwork yes (the R2 looks a little bland). But it's the box, it must take ages to get the disc you want, especially with Alien. With the R2 it's just like opening an Amaray case. Very sturdy and much more efficient than that R1. Just my opinion though :smashin:

But you aren't going to watch them every day, the region 1 set is much more collectable and the packaging works.

Of course I'm not going to watch it all the time, but the fact is the R2 will last a lot longer than the R1 and if I do want to take a disc out then it only takes a couple of seconds. I have the 24 boxsets and they're horrible to open. Band of Brothers is especially horrible, and that's the tin version!
Cardboard packaging sucks, unless it contains a hard amaray case inside (such as Fox's 2 disc sets of Master & Commander and X2). I hate digipacks and I always will. I don't much care for artwork because I tend to watch the films rather than stare at the packaging.
But that's my preference. I'm sure the more die hard Alien fan would have to go for the R1 anyway, just to get all of the commentaries. Me, I only like the first two, and hate the 4th film.
Just me opinion
Each to his own I suppose - Personally I much prefer digipacks :smashin:
Agree about Alien 4 though - watched it again after buying the boxset - it was even worse than I remember from the cinema! :(

Hi,
Quick update: HMV have started a "BOGOF" (Buy One, Get One Free) offer on the four Alien films, each being released as 2-disc editions, in new packaging, and with the exact same features and extras as the Box Set.
Each title is £22-99, so you could. in theory, get all four films for less than £46!!!! Admittedly, you won't get the posh boxed set packaging, but for the price....

You also don't get the 9th disc.
Amazon.co.uk have the films for £8.99 each.
HMV also have exclusive pakaging for ALIEN. Quite nice it is too ;)
