I don't like the thinner look of the new models...

I had a DVD-25 a while back, then sold it - realised i'd made a silly mistake - and now bought a DVD 2550 (same, but in silver) from krishav for £200.

No DVD audio though...

I'm not sure that I would describe HiFi Blitz as anyones friend given what they are charging for the two players. See the other thread for other comparative EU pricing.

I tried a DVD22, couldn't see any improvement from my old Pioneer DV444. Don't get me wrong, the picture was good but it just wasn't any better. (does this mean that the 444 was very good or the DVD22 just ok ).

The DV444's Mitsubishi MPEG decoder is the same as used in the DV747 and the video DAC was used in the DV656a and the Denon DVD 2800 for RGB, so it can't be that bad as these IC's represent most of the signal processing.

Sorry to ramble on, it just got me thinking as to why the HK PQ was not any better (for me anyway).

I must admit my main reason for considering this DVD player was the CD performance! (and of course a good picture performance)

How does it rate on that front?

I don't like the tinner look either, but it will fit easier into my unit!!

I did try a cd out of curiosity and it sounded ok but I have nothing to reference it to. I don't use the system for music playback.

Anyone got a view on the major differences between the two models (22 and 31). From the specs I've been able to find it seems to focus on the DVD-Audio capabilities.

I can't see me buying too many DVD-Audio tiles (and even if I did I could always play the DVD-Video side!). Can anyone see any significant differences on the video side?

That's pretty much it mate, one is DVD-A and t'other isn't! DVD-22 has been shipping since before Christmas as DVD506 (identical spec), pretty sure the 31 is out now too...

Any view of the differences if any between the old 2550, the 506 and the 22 (apart from the size!)

For example, the 2550 got a very good press on this forum, does the 22 match it or better it for picture quality?
