It's available from Techtronics, looking at their web site. I'm not sure whether to go for that or a Pioneer 668. The s97 is £100 cheaper, and my criteria are mainly multi region and HDMI...any thoughts, anyone?

all multi region?
I am stuck in the AV wilderness they call NY.
I'm originally from Australia and didn't bring over my hifi equipment from home (sold it) and to be honest i dont have the room for it in my small NY apartment anyway.
I thought it would be cheap enough to buy an all in 1 type system over here but didn't count on the fact that in the USA there seems to be no one selling multi region dvd players.
I tried to buy the follow from AVland but basically they are saying they wont ship to the usa;
Panasonic XR-50 amp
Panasonic XR-2000 speakers
Panasonic S97 dvd player.
So basically i can get everything in the usa here but all the retailers are telling me that they only have R1 S97's?
But everyone advertising in the UK is selling multi regions. My question is - does this unit come multi-region out of the box or is it a code/software hack done by the stores.
Can anyone ehelp me as my 200+ R4 dvd's are arriving by boat in a weeks time and I have nothing to play them on.
CheerS,
Dean

This looks like it could be ideal for me as Im thinking of buying an panasonic ae700 projector which is equipped with hdmi. I'm not up on these things, I gather hdmi is the route to go? Could there be any possible drawbacks to this machine?

It's not out yet..some people have heard mid Oct (in the US), others November. I'm keeping a very close eye on this..I'm hoping it's an outstanding player, particularly in terms of its upscaling abilities. Could go very nicely with a new AE700 projector..

Does anyone know if this player will be capable of upscaling to HD 720p?

Yes, it will upscale to 720p and 1080i, but only through a HDMI connection. I *think* you can get a HDMI to DVI cable, though, and it'll do the same thing if you don't have a HDMI input on your display device (though i'm not entirely sure).
edit - you can find all official info on it at: http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs...Model=DVD-S97S

Just got a reply from av-land, saying that panasonic are expecting them on 29th October.
So probably early november for anybody wanting one.
