Hi,

Have just installed a new 80gig Samsung hard drive in addition to my existing 20 gig drive.

But win XP pro has only formatted this as 31.4 gb.

My bios only recognises this as 31.4gb too. The model nunmber on the hard drive indicates that it is an 80gb drive.

The bios is set to auto detect the new drive and I was wondering if this was the problem.

Thanks, in advance for any suggestions.

Check the jumper(s) on the new HDD. Sounds like it's set limited to 32GB.

Should be a little diagram on the HDD with details.

What motherbaord do you have, it could be possible that your motherboard doesnt support / recognize a 80gb hard drive. have a read of the manual or just go to the website of the manufacurar that made your board.

as advised, check the jumper settings and update the BIOS firmware.

Thanks for the prompt replies.

It was a jumper setting on the hard drive:suicide:

74.5gb now working great.
