I think korean DVD's got some more from somewhere. But I noticed it disappeared after I ordered it!

Might be worth emailing them and see if they can locate you a copy. The copy I had looked as if they brought it from a shop, as it had price sticker on!

Sorry, I forgot you'd need an account to read it, it says: "The region 3 korea version has been consored like the Japanese version. It has been cut a few seconds.

"In the Japanese version of the movie, due to censorship rules over showing genitalia, there are no penis shots in the whole movie." - IMDB "

Damn :( i love to collect films but can't abide censorship even if it is just a few seconds, are u sure nothing else is censored and why couldnt they just reframe that particular scene as this film was shot super 35 :( ?

Anyone know if leon is completely uncut in korea cos i ordered that too.

Sheeeesh i use this site for region comparison and this is the second time this has happened.

http://www.dvdcompare.net/comparisons/film_results_page.php?fid=606

Itll say the films uncut and it ends up being censored, don't tell me its just a few seconds of nudity and it doesnt matter, i'm a collector and i'm buying from region 3 because i want the best version available with DTS sound, if i wanted any old version id have bought the region 1 edition years ago.

Pretty major mistake and since people rely on them for their information they should make sure its 100% reliable, what id like to know is how the cuts affect the audio commentaries track, will it be out of synch ?

Will K

Like the disclaimer says, they can't check every single DVD themselves, so they can never be 100% sure it's reliable.

I wonder if Cliffhanger is uncut on region 3 cos i fancy the DTS version.

Also wondered if Cliffhanger region 2 DTS version has a higher bitrate than the region 3 does anyone know ?

cmf21
16-03-2004, 11:13 PM
Disappointed to hear that it's been censored but as there doesn't appear to be any definitve version (uncut with DTS sound) and nothing on the horzon I'll continue with my order for this for the sound and keep my R1 disc for the unedited cut of the film

Foxymulder
Just finished reviewing the Korean Cliffhanger SE for another site and I can confirm that to the best of my knowledge it's uncut. The region 3 has a DTS 5.1 half bit rate (768kbps) track. This is probably due to the compression space on the disc being eaten up by two commentary tracks etc. I'm not sure about the Japanese single disc edition. The Korean 2 disc set can be bought from koreandvds for $13, which is a real bargain. The Japanese release will cost you alot more to import and doesn't have all the bonus material that the region 3 boasts.

My advice is go for the Korean. The dts track is a cracker and well worth the $13 price tag!

It was shot super 35, the super 35 format allows reframing on home formats so why didnt they simply reframe it so those shots are not in view but leave the film intact, anyone have an answer ?

popeye

I always prefer to see a film uncut where ever possible, but the few seconds missing on Fight Club don't concern me that much.
I honestly beleive the Korean edition represents the best version of the movie, with the bennefits of having the excellent dts track out waying the minor cuts on this occassion.

Censorship no matter how small spoils any benefits of having a DTS track, on the american forum sites they say the full frontal nudity appears twice (( also near the end of the film too )) they say its vital to the plotline and the explanation of behaviour of one of the characters.

I think it will affect the commentary tracks.

And show what? a close up on the testicle? a few pubes? LOL!

Spoonman2
18-03-2004, 7:20 AM
It shows a close up (for about half a second) of a penis.

It could affect the story, because after he`s spliced some pornography into the childs film, he says "Nice big cock".

Not that its really going to bother me, as I`ve seen the film many times. But people new to the film, might not understand his comment so much.

It is an amusing part of the story, and without it then it wouldn't be quite so funny would it (especially at the end of the film). To anyone who hasn't seen it then it would be best for them to find that out themselves rather than a spoiler in this thread!

Spoonman2

I can`t remember the cock at the end of the film, anyone tell me where it is?

Not that I`m overly interested of course:blush:

I hope no budding Tyler's splice a screenshot of aformentioned appendage into this family friendly thread, it wouldn't be amusing at all. Don't be a space monkey - it's not big, and it's not clever!

I was informed on the american forum sites that the full frontal nudity occurs at the following times in the film.

32 minutes and 25 seconds in : lasts for about 33 frames (( just over 1 second )) and again 2 hours and 16 minutes and 5 seconds into the film and lasts for about 4 frames 1/8 of a second

I have never seen the film so don't know if it will affect my viewing of it but it does seem very short cuts, basically its 1 and a quarter seconds in total (( unless some violence is also cut ))

purplefoot
19-03-2004, 12:48 PM
Since that last cut is effectively the last shot of the movie, I think it will probably effect your viewing experience.

DTS and a cut film, or DD and Fincher's original vision: easy choice for me, I'm not that wedded to my amp!:p

FoxyMulder
19-03-2004, 1:23 PM
Good point but for someone who has never ever saw the film will it really make a difference is my question, surely there's more to this film than 1 lil scene at the end, especially since i was told its 4 frames long which is basically a blink and u miss it sorta scene.

Watched this at the weekend, the cuts of 1.2 seconds didnt interfere with my enjoyment, wow kinda weird this film but i think i liked it.

Very good camerawork, i think i'll watch it again in 6 months time and see what i think of it all then, not sure if the DTS soundtrack was that much better than the Dolby one to be honest.
