Loft Conversion

Whilst waiting for the loft conversion i built the most important part of the home cinema, the bar !!!!

P.S Front still to be finished, this was thrown up within 1 1/2 hours

Are you going to do any fancy lighting for it?

I had though about it but was'nt sure what to do, just going to stick with downlighters once it goes in the loft. Two of the taps for the beer light up, maybe that will be enough

I'm currently designing a games room, the bar will look much like a pub one, 6ft long x 3ft wide with working taps!!!

I'm also going to sneak in a black jack layout under a removeable bar top for casino nights.

What sort of lighting are you thinking about?

To be prefectly honest I'm not usre what you would put in.

Tony, who I have a desk next to at work, is our lighting man and has done a fair amount of install jobs for commercial properties, hotels, resturants, bars, and a huge amount of Odeon cinemas.

I guess lighting wise, I'd look at some nice trendy bars and get ideas from them. Maybe spot lighting some of the drinks, or lighting under the edge of the bar top, UV could look quite nice if done tastefully.

I reckon it's worth a night out in bars to do reasearch!

Ooh, one thing that would be cool, if a little blinding, would be LED uplighters sunk flush into the bar surface.

Where are the optics?

The top is your normal kitchen worktop from BQ, 3meter = £60

The length you see is 2.4 meters, the front and side is 18mm mdf @ 1 meter high, all this was cut to size at BQ and thats why it was so easy to put up.

Gary, already got the optics from Ebay but now cant find them, must be in the loft somewhere
Lots of places on the internet to get stuff, even found one that takes visa electron, ashtrays, candles, straw dispencer and even a menu holder all arrived today.

Worktop £60.00
Mdf £20.00 Enough left for shelfs
Timber £10.00
Cladding £14.00
Varnish £20.00 Thats a big tin as need it for loft

The lights. You know the sort of light that go on walls, like a fish net with small lights, was thinking about getting one of them, drilling small holes in front panel and poking them through, the mdf is 18mm plus the cladding so the bulb wouldnt need to go right through just half way, was thinking that might be nice.
Or, the top of the bar is overhanging a bit, so, what about a rope light going along the top edge under worktop?

This wont be getting done untill loft is completed anyway so plenty of time for that, oh, and yes, the bar will need to get dismantled to get it up stairs.

Tip Of The Day.... If you make a bar like this remember that the worktop will be bare on the other side, the side that normally goes against the wall, ask the BQ man nicely as they normally have lots of spare ones lying about.
