Pipex adsl

i spoke to someone at pipex, i can sign up using solo card so i shall, I was surprised to here its a 12 month contract,


can i ask, i want to share my new adsl connection with my sister's pc, and want to be able to use them without both being on at the same time,

what router/modem do i need?

i ideally want an all in one, what shall i get?

I use Pipex & after trying 3 diff types of Wireless I can recommend D-Link......I bought the DSL-604 (around £100) all in one (modem/router/wireless) & it works faultlessly with great distance ability. Currently share PC & Laptop through it no probs, plus have even used PS2 Online :)

Just looked at the Pipex website here (http://www.dsl.pipex.net/adsl/sales/solutions/residential/500/) for the details of their residential 512k service. The website states that the minimum contract period is 1 month, with a canellation charge of £58.75 if you choose to cancel within the first 12 months of having the service. So it might be worth checking again with pipex to see exactly what the situation is....


On the subject of routers, you're probably better off buying a router that incorporates a built-in adsl modem. Take a look at Netgear's website (http://www.netgear.co.uk). Netgear products are available from most stores, and you can expect to pay between £60 and £100. Wireless will remove the need for running cables everywhere, but will increase the cost.

im prepared to go for a 12 month contract, ive been with freeserve anytime for the past 12 months, and its gone so quickly,

ill have a look, how do i know the modem is in the router, im not sure wether ill get wireles,, depends if my mum will pay the difference.

Good choice Chilpillphil. I've been with Pipex ADSL for over 2 years now and will happily continue to do so. Not had any problems. :smashin:

ok, well i just ordered, it said please note we do not acept solo,

i selected switch, and put in all my solo details

do you think they will process my order?

They'll process until it comes to payment authorisation... give them a call or email them to sort it out. You won't need filters until you connect up your router/modem. Make sure that you either filter centrally or that you have a filter for every device connected to a socket (except the router/modem).

Pipex allow a year up-front or you can ask to pay by direct debit (check that your bank account allows this).

they said, they cannot acept my card, and you need to use switch/ mastercard or visa

im gonna order giointernet, £19.95 p/m for 512k plus £59.99 activation,

i will start saving back in just over a year,

As I use the internet for connecting to work for up to 10hrs a day I researched all the ADSL guides for best ISP. Pipex came out top in most ( http://www.pipex.net/images/dial/headers/tb1news.jpg) plus has a good track record over the last few years.

I've been using them for approx 6 months now & have never had a problem. Is it really worth saving a few quid over a year, to possibly end up with the unknown ? Saying that its free activation with PIPEX if you have your own modem, & would take 18 months to recoup costs with your latest option.

Personally I went for the modem & 2 filters @ £17 & then sold the modem for £30 on EBAY....meaing I was £13 & 2 filters better off:) Remember any external router you buy will inevitably be ethernet connection, whilst most modems offered by ISPs are USB only. Go for the all in ones :smashin:

yes thats good, pipex sounds great, but they will not accept my card, therefore, i am inable to order it.

Steer clear of Gio... they have quite a poor reputation. Check out the message boards at www.adslguide.org.uk before you make a decision ;)

well i carnt get pipex, people have different oppions of services,

if you can find another provider that exept solo i will choose them

if not, im stuck with gio

pipex are excellent been with them for 2 years and no probs
as for sharing access i use a non-wireless lan which bought recently , its an edimax adsl router and paid about £50
be carefull as not many so called adsl routers have a built in modem, which then requires a special rj45 modem costing in axcess of £70, so what seems to be a good buy originally works out expensive, this applies to wireless and cable ones
