Beamax or DRH screens?

Has anyone got a Beamax or DRH screen?

Any feedback on quality/ripples/mechanism etc?

I'd appreciate it if you let me know.

This is to be used with a Panny PT-AE100E (almost at 200 hours now!)

At the moment I am looking at either a Beamax (£212.45 + p&p) R-Black 16:9 (213cm x 124cm) - http://www.beamaxed.co.uk/ or perhaps a DRH (£158) Slimline - http://www.drhscreens.co.uk/slimline.html in the same sort of size.

If the DRH is OK I'll probably go for that as it is a lower price and has free delivery.

Any word of wisdom would be appreciated - or alternatives for this price and size to consider.

I would also be interested to see what others have to say about the DRH screens as I am interested in the same one.

Ditto looking at that one myself, projecting on to a cream wall at the moment and dont know what to expect with a screen

I have a DRH slimline 240 and I'm very happy with it, but I will point out a few things I have found tho....


The case is light grey which isnt the most pleasing of colours, although the case is very slimline compared to some others I've seen.

The motors are noisy but thats obviously only lowering and raising it so thats not really a problem for me.

The edges of mine are slighty curled out and have been from new, but its only on the masked edge not the image area. The white area is not curled.

The brackets are fixed to the case and two of the screwholes are keyholed so you mount the screws first then fit the brackets on them. You have to be very presice with your measurements when placing these screws. Not helped by the dimensions on the website being slightly incorrect.

These points aside I would buy one again.

The Beamax has the advantage of having adjustable mounting so can be adjusted quickly against the projected image

Too right!! Quite a tricky operation.

I have a DRH slimline manual matt white screen– no curling, gives a good picture, can happily watch with some ambient light. Pleased with it so far – would buy DRH again.

I've got the DRH slimline 240 - like everyone above says, it seems rugged, I've got no ripples and just some curling on the black border. Case colour's not a problem as I've hidden it in the ceiling. The motor is very noisey though.

The service from DRH was excellent. I would certainly buy from them again.

Just to add my vote of confidence in DRH (mines manual and 8ft wide (240cm)). In fact I bought 2, one for me (16:9) and one for my film society (4:3)

Good spring mechanism, a tug down and it glides up in a controlled fashion rather than shooting up at the speed of light

Would certainly buy again.
