I was reading in one of the computer magazines that they are altering the form of the motherboard which was ATX to BTX. This MB is smaller but will provide for better cooling with the cases designed for it which will have one big intake fan which will blow across the hot processor(some in test just used heat sinks) and main chips. The case and MB are suppose to be desined so the air flow is mor efficient and reduce the computer noise. Also smaller cases may become available.
I just did a quick search on the net and found this here. (http://www.neoseeker.com/news/story/2951/)
Just found this article here (http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1876) which describes the different sizes of BTX board, and the differing power supply sizes.
It looks like the actual pin-outs of the atx power connector have been carried over to the forthcoming btx items....

Looks like now is not the time to be buying if you intend upgrading frequently, as also the 64 bit cpu are coming out but have to come down to a reasonable price.
Another reason not to buy now is PCI Express will be out very soon. This means that graphics cards will no longer be AGP for high end systems

Well this makes me feel great having just ordered all the bits for my new build (arriving tomorrow). Oh well, it's never a good time to buy when it comes to PC bits and bobs...

I'm just about to buy a new PC but new bits aren't going to stop me though. PCs change so quick things go out of date in weeks. Have to bite the bullet sometime.:suicide:

Your right that there is always something about to come out but I class a new MB and case a big thing and not something to be changed too offen.
Saying that I would not bother too much zAndy1 if you are not an upgrade/speed freak your system should last at least 3 years and beyond.

It looks like the BTX form factor will include PCI Express slots and will probably see the end of serial com ports and parallel ports. I've seen a couple of diagrams however which indicate that it will still have a floppy channel  I've not used the floppy channel on my last 3 motherboards and consider this a waste of space and IRQ !
