best version of lord of the rings fellowship of the ring: extended version?

i have a jvc av-28t25s 28inch widescreen tv connect to a toshiba 220 dvd player by rgb with a qed 2100 fully wired scart lead.

i wish to buy this film and i was going to buy the region 2 uk version because i read on another thread, that the pal version version looks better and has better picture quality.

but i have read on reviews that the pal version has audio glitces and problems: these are a series of pops ond glitches and dropouts etc, so my question is are the problems really noticable, and a big problem and a big distraction and take down the entertainment value of the the feature film?

so which is the best version of the film on my set up?

and look i'm not too concerned about the packaging and the extras or subtitles etc, i am most concerened about the a/v quality

hi i have the r1 version and the picture is perfect im not to sure what the r2 version is like.

This has been discussed many many many times - if you do a search I am sure you will see - the region one version is alwys the version of choice for most members (incl me!)

If you live in the UK might you might as well get the Region 2 release, it is only £16.99 and I have it and cant say I noticed any problems.

I have gone for the R1 as I hate player generated subtitles. However, the store Comet is selling the R2 EE for just £7.95.

I have the region two version and it looks great to me on my projector. There is a sound problem with it though, on a couple on long notes you notice a slight 'blip' but you only hear it if you are listening for it, and I would imagine most people wont even notice it as it only occurs twice and only for a fraction of a second.

That sounds like the pitch correction problem of the R2 and R4.

I've not noticed any sound glitches with my copy. The PAL version does have the most picture detail, that has been veryified here http://www.videophile.info/Review/FOTR/FOTR_01.htm
I know some AV recievers in the past had bugs that caused glitches and dropouts when trying to decode DTS-ES and DD-EX (my old Marantz SR5200 used to have problems, and my Sony used to before it had a firmware update).

Don't forget about the PAL speed-up. FOTR EE goes on for an arse-numbing 3 1/2 hours approximately - but thanks to the 4% speed-up you can watch exactly the same film but save yourself about 15 minutes.

This will make your arse recovery rate alot quicker.

And it's pitch adjusted, so those with perfect pitch shouldn't hear any difference either; unless the new complaint is "perfect tempo".

If they can digitally shink Elijah Wood and Sean Astin to Hobbit size then an audio pitch correct shouldn't be too much trouble.

So this happens twice, for a fraction of a second, in a three hour plus long movie. Hrm... hardly what I'd term "audio glitches and problems".

Could be, but at less than one second out of some 10,000 seconds in the films it's hardly an issue is it?

Again, it's not as is they are on screen all the time is it? Few minutes, at most, through the length of the movie.

As cybersoga points out, there is actuall comparative data available to show that one format has better picture quality than the other, not opinion or "fat bloke says".

If ur television is 32 inches or less u won't see any difference in picture quality between the region 1 or 2 versions, the Audio is a different matter i firmly believe PAL speedup IS a problem and does detract from the film.

I live in Athens and a lot of times have compared R1 with R2 dvds and my opinion is that Region 1 is much better and with nicer packages…
