Can someone please explain the difference between 1080 and 720.

I have a Sony D50HRT projector and I am interested in investing in a JVC d- theater video. I called on of the suppliers over in the UK who told me the D50 is only capable of 1080 and I would really need a 9inch tubed projector capable of 720.

I must admit to complete and utter confusion. Anyone out there able to clear things up?

You can read about here (http://www.projectorexpert.com/Pages/dtvfaq.html) and here (http://www.sciatl.com/consumers/HDTV%20FAQs%20CTAM%20rev%2041.pdf)

As for the PJ - the Sony D50 (7inch) PJ will do 720P or 1080i but a 9inch PJ (Sony's G90, 1292 or the Barco 1209s) will fully resolve 1080P.

Be very careful running a JVC deck with a Sony D50, it will not work!!!

You will need a transcoder to send the unit RGBHV and even then the PJ cannot resolve tri-level sync. You need a very good transcoder such as the up and coming MP-5 from Mike Parker, or alternatively a scaler such as the HD Leeza. Key digitals transcoders will not work.

Incompatability with CRT and tri-level sync is VERY common.

X3ELS, are you sure about the incompatibility of the JVC deck with the D50? It worked flawlessly with my G70, and I believ the input board is the same.
