The Swedes are now getting 26mb/s broadband for £30/month

Lucky them eh!

The minimum speed they can get is 2.5mb/s, while it is getting normal to have 8-16mb/s, but now 26mb/s for £30/month is reality and my friend said that there is no limit how fast broadband can be because of the fiber optic infrastructure they have.

He thought UK should be sued for allowing Tiscali calling a speed of 150k/s as broadband ;p

I guess theoretically they can download a high quality movie in 4 minutes or so.

Ive noticed on the Jap Yahoo chart, that it is really only people extremely close to the exchange that will get 40-45mbps, the further away from the exchange the slower speed. The majority will get much lower, if there are scarce with exchanges.

I believe that everyhousehold that are reached by the exchange will get 26mbps, the speed is not decreasing the further away you live (I'm gonna try and get confirmation on that).

Still a darn cheap offers, really cost nothing!

BT were going to install fibre in the UK, but then the government sold them off into privatisation, so the cost then could not be justified by the company.

And there's the governments telling us privatisation is a good thing.

According to BT everyone in the UK will be able to get broadband by the end of 2005.

That means I've only got to put up with 56K for another 2 years

I love BT I do.

Ok, but what does broadband mean according to BT?
150k speed to everyone? or even up to 512k? and charging a whooping £18/month!

Well, some good and bad auto news, strangely Mazda RX-8 231bhp is actually only around £1500 dearer than US (usually US is 40-50% cheaper) and £6000 cheaper than Sweden or 21.4%! On the other hand Peugeot 206Gti in Sweden is £2750 ( cheaper than in UK) or 20%.

Oh, Pioneer DV-360 (dvd player) cost £60 if bought from richers with price beat by £10 against amazon, and that my friends is nearly 44% cheaper than best price in Sweden! Not bad ;p

I'd like to see this.

My friend can't even get v90 speeds on dial-up. It seems his one phone line is the exchange for every house in the area! Oh, and BT won't do anything about it

I believe BT only advertises 512k or higher as broadband, it's other companies that are calling lower speeds BB, and BT isn't too happy about that, though I think Oftel may be looking into it.

Gary.
